Why are boss fights add-centric instead of having a complex boss?

It's certainly possible to kill them at the end, rather than just wiping.

And if your party is good, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to kill them during the fight, it's just that there's no real need to when you know they'll just respawn anyway (while the boss is alive). Getting a GF to run in circles is just faster, overall, and much less hassle (not least because it keeps the 'golem red' nicely away from the 'hrimnir red').

Though to reiterate just in case anyone reading this thread doesn't know: the easy (lazy) way to clear the adds after hrimnir is dead is as follows:

Everyone dies, but nobody releases. Once everyone is dead and the adds have pootled back to their starting positions, one person releases, respawns and wanders into the boss room. They get horribly ganked by every add ever, die, and don't release. This time when the adds pootle off to their starting positions, they'll despawn completely. Everyone releases, respawns, collects loot and does a happy dance.

    Can anyone confirm that?

I'll try FH this evening (I still need T2 boots), hope it's fixed for real! :D

Yes, it has been possible for a very long time. The adds only rarely go into infinite respawn, just there are a lot of them, and if you don't start trying to kill them, you won't notice the pack thinning out.

If I am with a competent group, I generally prefer to quickly drop my AoE powers back into slots and slaughter the adds. Obviously, if you're in a group with less able players with poor self-preservation and target selection skills, this is somewhat frustrating and less viable.

Wiping to clear the adds always feels like a tacit admission of defeat :D

When we killed them as they spawned, the GWF, TR and I (DC - debuffing) focused the golems while the CW kited and burned the trolls. A HR worked on Hrimir. If you go the kiting option and want to clear them out after, the CW should try and slot Icy Terrain and put Sudden Storm on mastery, and have Oppressive Force as a daily. Steal Time and Shard to round it out, though they have target caps of five, they help build AP for OP which doesn't. Cleric should be debuffing. It takes awhile to thin the adds out, but both the trolls and golems attack so slow that it's not that hard to avoid taking damage.

I went in there once as CW with 2GWF and HR and something else, the GWF and me are way overgeared, we just pile everything on the boss and nuked it.

I don't think draco adds are harmless, but ever try doing that fight as the only CW? it's a nightmare.

Yes but kiting the mobs, then wiping is faster. A good group can get 2-3 FH runs done like this during a DD to try to get people their boots. You have the horrible RNG so the best way to combat that is to get lots of pulls for the dd chest. Killing the adds takes longer and slows this down.

The one time I did kill them lately, they never actually stopped spawning anyways. Literally everyone we killed would instantly spawn a replacement for a good ten minutes. At that point we decided that it may not bug every time but it does bug enough to not make trying to fight worth it.

Well, killing adds is pointless... they don't even drop anything, wiping is faster and really feels just like a workaround to something that is broken and hasn't been fixed for ages...
