I never thought of it, but they are a little high. However, Cryptic has yet to show that they care about these kinds of visual issues.

I applied these to my weapon and tested out the animations, didn't have time to take a screenshot but they are held wrong. The hand holds them awkwardly in the center of the haft instead of at the end, the result is that your strikes hit with the back or pommel rather than with the blade, hope this gets fixed at some point because it looks rather stupid to hit someone with the blunt side of an axe.

As shown in the OP image it's actually correct and realistic. That is a sharp blade next your thigh, do you really want it hanging lower where just running around could slice your leg to pieces? The blade is at the pivot-point on the hip, where it is both: safest to mount and easily 'unholstered' for use.
