Mod 2 Recovery Rogue question

Hello all,

Time has come for me to revisit my TR, so I just finished getting Skulker's and I am ready to dive in theorycrafting. Module 2, is all about survival and control since you can't really one-shot good players, and frankly with my 200-300 ms latency, Lashing blade is a pain to land. So I am looking for something of the bilethorn Recovery thing with a twist. Questions are:

1) I suppose that those build run with Shadow Strike/Impossible to Catch/Impact shot while exchanging with Path of the Blade for certain situations. If I am going to get some points in INT rather than CHA that I have currently, what would be the Recovery needed so as to get overlapping SS->ItC? Currently my only source of Recovery are the Thayan weapons (quite nice), but i plan to enchant for it and also later on grab Waters if I get rich or lucky. Is 1500-ish an acceptable number along with 16 INT?

2) Can Plaguefire work instead of Bilethorn? Looking at mod3 suggested changes, I think that debuff would be the way to go, so I'd put some effort on PF over poison dots. Thoughts?

3) I'd suppose that for such a build 20-25% deflect would be sufficient since the plan is to minimise the times that you are completely vanlurable to the opponent. Is it too low?

Thanks for the time.

Don't know if it's soon or later, since it's still in testing (Preview shard). Up to now the suggested changes was adding a new stat called Tenacity in PvP gear that reduces the crit severity of opposing players along with increasing your damage resistance. Also they suggested a generic damage reduction in PvP and a very vague nerf to healing (regeneration/temp HP and healing in general) while in PvP mode.

Still it's not final, but the think is that it's PvP focused. Back to the original question, please.

    Hi!

    1) I myself run with 16 int unbuffed and 1458 rec right now. While it is enough to have ITC and SS overlap for a coupla ms (unless Dazzling Blades procs), I'd suggest to go for more rec (which is what I'm doing right now as well). It is great fighting pugs but yeah, once things don't go as smooth, you'll want every tenth of a second off your CDs.

    2) For now, I wouldn't want to miss my Bilethorn and I'm kinda hesitating going all crazy over the preliminary changes. Thus I'd wait til things get less vague.

    3) As I can't log in right now, I can't really tell you my deflection chance. That already gives away that I don't worry about it too much. Now you may ask why, reason being that there's not much room to influence that. At the end of the day, you'll want Arp, Crit and Rec at a solid 2200+ alongside with a healthy 32k+ HP. Not to mention regen. This leaves no room to use any deflect enchants or items. You could go a slightly different route, but the benefit you get from increased Health + Regen + Stealth uptime is just too delicious to skip imo. Cause at the end of the day deflect is just a chance to mitigate damage again. Some may get lucky with that, I myself rarely get lucky with chances in this game :-)
Edit: If you have access to Rank 10s, things might look different. But there's just no decent deflect items to compliment those out there if you ask me.

Thank you very much for the responses.

    1) So it would be advisable to get some more Rec over some Crit I assume. Even with 40-45% it's still high enough.

    2) Thing is, I've been using PF a lot. It's quite versatile either for damage dealing since a good defense debuff combined with high ArmPen is nice. I can see the clear benefits of Bilethorn, but to be honest I don't really like it in non-Perfect version. So between a GPF and a GBilethorn, I'd go for the GPF. They do have different functionalities though.

    3) Unfortunately no access to r8+. I will get to R7s for now since I don't have the funds. Obviously stacking r10s makes it better, especially for rogues that need access to many stats.

    Thanks for the discussion.

Check the patch notes thread name, It has Shadowmantle in front of it. The actual mod3 is still few months away, this is just some idiotic way to try to balance pvp because of casuals crying. Pvp is pretty balanced at top lvl of pvp (builds centered around pvp, gears centered around pvp and playstyle centered around pvp). Some sort of matchmaking system is needed though since the gear is what makes pvp so unbalanced. As for your questions I think plague fire is viable for this sort of build, might be even better than bilethorn against gwfs. I tested it about for a week and liked it but switched back to Bile just because I like it more and in pugs ppl still freak out because of all the small numbers floating around :D And as for recovery, I have 16 int and only 1.1k recovery on my tr and i already have overlapping itc and ss, but in actual pvp conditions this is not the situation since there is alot of stuff that can drain your stealth away, so i would suggest to get around 2k recovery to be on the safe side. On max geared trs i see around 2.2k-2.3k recovery which roughly lands them around 22-24% rsi iirc. I have 20% deflect and it seems to be enough for me. I don't suggest investing enchant slots to deflect tho, hp all the way. You can get around 20% deflect from gear, boons, feats etc with pretty much any class.

You want the ITC cooldown to 14.6-13.8s to do the rotation properly. I had my character I believe at 14.8 when I was doing it, but even then I would've liked it to be a little lower just for AOE and weapon enchant damage still going through tenacious. I also know of someone else who kept there around 13.8.

Regarding plaguefire, keep in mind that it will only lower the defense by a percent, so depending on how the new attributes are factored in for the next update, it may not be affected. Along the same lines as this, keep in mind that for players without high defense stat, that there is also a large difference between -15% defense and -15% damage reduction. Bilethorn will still be best.

Another thing too though, keep in mind that timing duelist fury immediately after itc or stealth provides an extra immunity window that makes the rotation easier.

For me personally though, I've played this build a lot, and it can be fun, but its pointless. Eventually this type of thing is going to get patched out in the future. They were already testing and attempting to implement suggestions as to how to break permastealth builds in the other mod release by making at-wills drain stealth. Either way though, its just not a fun build for me in pvp because its too overpowered and there really aren't ways to counter it.

For me im going to stick with a defense/deflect non-stealth oriented build as the next updates are coming. I'd rather go with something unconventional that is more challenging/fair to play that I know isn't at risk to get nerfed out of the game eventually.

Thank you very much for the suggestions and opinions. Clearly you need to get as high in recovery without critically reducing your other offensive stats, and I will have to choose between PF and Bilethorn.

So, see you in the battlefield while learning the ropes of this.
