So ive been reading all the pros and cons of the Master of the Flame path and am wondering is it really viable to use? What race would you choose ...what spec ....Renegade or something else ...kind of confused ...wheres Grimah when you need him

I recommend oppressor with MoF. Rimfire may disrupt the smolder bug, however it's still going to burn them too. IT on tab, chill strike, shard, steal time. use RoF for freezing stuff, scorching burst to add the smolder, otherwise go with the crit class feature to add smolder. Generally you can lock down a group, freeze em, burn em, while they're on IT frozen you pop shard and smash em with it, do IT again, then steal time so they're stuck and continuing to burn and die. :)

According to forum posts it is viable. Based on testing I did previously when it was still just on test, it was a significant dps drop.

Not much Fire in this rotation.

True. However, any crit adds fire. They all have a tendancy to crit with a halfway decent crit rate. Thus, burn comes along with it. I have scorching burst as an at-will. ST can be replaced with FtF. So it can cause burnafication too.

my personal setup is FtF on tab, IT, chill strike, shard. I just recently swapped IT and FtF for tab spot and I've come to really enjoy FtF on tab. With t1 pvp gear, it's a rapid cool down, hard hitting ability.

I'm full on oppressor. I enjoy the fast chill and chill causes rimfire. Which right now is bugged, however I'm sure that'll get fixed and those times that the bug causes a disruption in the dot will just make it hit harder. I'm also a pure PVP'r. So if you do PVE, or something else, you may wish to change what you do.

For Dailies, I slot IK and OP. If I do PVE, then I'll replace IK with AS. Do an AS, scorch burst, FtF on the biggest, causes it all the melt, while I can throw an IT under the AS to make them all lock up once out of the daily.. good times.. good times.

All I can say is you definitely want Crit %(and Crit severity), it's pretty much the only way to increase the effectiveness of smoulder damage by making it crit. I really wish there was some sort of scaling damage to it but unfortunately it's static and a number based on what level you are.

When based off the crit to smolder class feature, I fully agree. It's possible to hard cast a smolder with the scorch at-will. However, not having to cast that as you crit a lot helps. Of course, critting when it happens also helps, as it makes the dot a crit too. So both sides of that are a win. Once you have the dots rolling, just tap them with chill now and then, will make it so they burn to death.
