The most I would be wiling to spend is around 900k to get it from tier 1 to 3. I did buy 2 zen mounts cause got bored of first and diversity is something I really miss in this game, cause training and transmuting can be very expensive, and there are so many other things to spend on, I'm currently working on perfect vorpal, almost 2 mil to go, plus rank 8s for my DC and the cost to get RP points for my artifacts alone could dry me everyday.

For the cost to fully upgrade 1 mount to rank 3 (2,832,000AD) I can buy 5-7 epic mounts at current prices in AH. But even before mod2 when epic mount low end prices where somewhere between 800k -1mill. Its was still far cheaper to just buy an epic mount then to upgrade your current mount.

Then add in the fact that we can only refine 24k AD a day, at that rate it would take 118 days of refining RADs just to be able to upgrade your mount to rank 3. At current AH prices it would take 16 days of refining RADs to be able to buy an epic mount.

That's how far off the prices for mount upgrades are.

What if we cut out a tier and made the speeds 75% and 100%? Upgrade cost could remain higher because you're only upgrading once.

My thoughts are ideally a reduction in price in line with the companion price reductions (approx. 40-60%) would be far more reasonable

It almost sounds like you are saying companion upgrade prices are reasonable. I don't know what the prices were "before," but it costs more AD to upgrade a white companion to green than it costs to buy a purple companion on the AH. I don't even want to think about the green to blue or blue to purple costs. If they really did lower the costs then they didn't lower them anywhere near enough.

Let's run the numbers. The most expensive Zen mount is 3500Z. At 400 AD/Zen that's 1,400,000 AD (Upgrade from level I would cost 2,800,000 AD). See the problem.
