Make 1v1 Optional
I looked back a few pages and I didn't see this, so I thought I'd create a topic on it. Me, my friends, and some of my guild mates would like for 1v1 challenges to be optional. Like to be able to Right click on your friend under or above Trade to have something like "Request Challenge."
I do think this could make pvps more fun with you could request whom you want to fight.
1.) It's not fun when people leave 5 secs into the game.
2.) It's not fun being harassed in the game either.
3.) It's not fun to have ZERO chance of winning.
A few times my teammates didn't stand a CHANCE. Imagine a WHOLE TEAM being WIPED out 30 secs into the game. Or how people with a high gs want to troll everybody. What I mean is standing RIGHT outside campfire and as soon as you jump down. You're DEAD. In another group, all 5 of us jumped down and we were all WIPED clean by ONE person who's HP didn't go down at all. Then they want to through insults because nobody wants to fight. Some of most of them are passive insults trying to make you feel guilty for staying at campfire, as if it's fun to jump down and die after 1-3 hits. It's ONLY fun for the person doing the killing. NO FUN for the person getting killed. Me, my friends, my guild. I can't speak for the entirity of the guild, but many would like it for pvps to be more gs vs gs. It doesn't have to be to the point of a 30 min wait. But it's not like you actually NEED to do a pvp the second you click to do one. Waiting 5-10 mins won't kill anybody. And you could do a mission or a foundry in the meantime.
I don't mind losing as long as there's a CHANCE I could win. But it's not fun when the whole team gets wiped out 30 secs into the game. And people asking 1v1 ONLY for 5 of them to attack you. Or scream, 1v1, and if I'm winning, then somebody kills me because I'm winning against that 1 person.
And well, I could ofc ignore harassmet from the other team. But it's twice as annoying when all the harassment is from YOUR OWN TEAM. And it's even more annoying when people want to send you nasty tells EVEN LONG WHEN PVP is OVER WITH. That's why SO MANY people complain about them.
So, I would think 1v1 option would be a GREAT benefit. All you have to do is walk up to your friend and send them a "Challenge request." Or ask guildmates if they would want to do a 1v1 with you and if any agrees and if their gs is close to yours send them a "Challenge request." It would also deal with the gs vs gs problem because you could ofc pick guildmates who have a gs close to yours. And obvious if they're in your friend list or if they're your guildmates. It's EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that they'll harass you. Even if they do, you could report them to the guild officers and not have to worry about them again. And it deals with leavers, the only person who's going to leave is either you or your good friend
I also like the idea of a Surrender button for the losing side who're getting wiped out in pvp with majority rules with them STILL getting their AD b/c nobody likes fighting without the slightest chance of winning.
And again, this would be something to do while they fix the imbalance during pvp. Also, I don't think PUGS should be allowed to pm anybody during pvp time. It would be nice if chat could somehow make tells friends only as an option. Or an option to set up how people could contact you. Just like Chat can be adjusted by creating tabs and deleting tabs. I would like it so that I could have Tells being friends only as optional. Or Friends + Guild + Open as options for tells. Or no tells at all during pvp time. Because the harassment is annoying. And people who want Open Tells could continue to have it. But for there to be the OPTION for tells to be friends only. NOT required. Or Friends + Guild could send tells.

NOT in any public PvE area. If Trade of Blades or Moonstone Mask wants to have a challenge area, or there is a 1v1 Arena somewhere they get teleported to -- fine. ANYWHERE in PvE - most definitely NOT fine.

Only to the most hardcore pvp'ers. I very rarely run into anyone in an mmo that does thing that offer no benefit in money or progression. Even titles make people do things. No rewards will cause a real lack of interest has been my experience in every mmo I've ever played.
Players will have the option to "Challenge" another player by using the "F" function. But players can also set their Duel settings so that they can't be challenged at all and the option will not appear. This way, the players who are not interested in PVP won't be getting unwanted challenges, since they don't PVP at all.
It'd be great if we could get a PVP zone as well. Like a large labyrinth, lots of traps, many players, the maps will not be available, and there will be mechanics that will confuse the player to disorient him, and prevent him from reaching the exit where he can get the rewards. This'll be sort of like Gauntlgrym, it'll be a timed event, and dying means you start on a random start point in the map which acts like a safe zone where you can't be attacked as long as you are in that zone. There will also be monsters which will force players to band together for a while to beat the monster, or the players can use this chaos to their advantage. It would be a fun PVPVE experience.
You would just be setting up a system where people can have a new way to annoy others. By spamming challenges on any one they know they can easily stomp. We have the perfect system for it. Complete with visible gear that cant be hidden, visible buffs and enchantments, and a gear score you cant hide. Put simply, low geared folks would come already equipped with a "kick me" sign on their back.
Unless there is a way to easily mass decline duals AND a way to mask or hide ones gear and stats. I really dont see duels as adding anything to the game other then grief.
I agree with what you are saying but...
PVP is the ONE exception. In almost every MMO I have played PVP players can be found just outside the most popular city where they can dual. There has never been any gain in it but they are always there. It has always been one of the best ways to find active PVP guilds.
This is one of the absolutely most annoying things I can recall from previous MMOs where two idiots would sit in the middle of a public area fighting each other and everyone else was forced to listen and see the spectacle. If it were to be allowed in public areas, please, please Selune hide it from my eyes and ears.
If there also was no option setting for auto-declining or ignoring challenges, you would be besieged with griefers spamming challenges to people not desiring to partake. Luckily most added the auto-decline option. I would expect Cryptic to repeat such prior mistakes and not have such an option for six months to a year.

Why? You think Lore breaking things such as Unicorn mounts is better? In almost every MMO with PVP I have played, Dueling has not been allowed in the cities. So it's not like it's under your nose and I don't see why it would bother you. Dose walking past people questing? It's the same thing.
Because of the set up of Neverwinter, yes they should just create a map that PVP players can go to. Problem solved. They could even have the PVP games on show there so people could watch. I'm amazed that they didn't think of that to be honest.
Not really. Not if you played against your friend or guild member with the same gs as you. As for as, "Can't kill each other." Have you ever played Mortal Kombat? Besides, one time I WAS lucky to have a 1v1 in a 5v5 match. Each of us had 5 players. And it was DC vs DC. It was a CLOSE CALL, but I won. Also, this is where strategy can take place. The most skilled person wins. But if you ever played Mortal Kombat or any ilk games. 1v1 could be very fun. Sure, people can exploit the game, but I highly doubt your friends or guild members would.
Not if there's auto-decline. Also, I was thinking at a person would have to be so close to you in order to send you an invite. For example, if a person is a certain distance away from you. You cannot Trade with them. You could ONLY trade with people if they're close to you and not in combat. You could ask your friend or guild member to meet you someplace private and turn off auto-decline. That's the way you could get a 1v1 request without suffering being spammed by them.
And for maybe for No Potions Allowed to deal with can't kill each other. And because it's 1v1 it would only need to be a small area to teleport to. And many of my friends said that they'll love pvp if it was possible and some of my friends are PAYING for this game. I mean, they be buying a lot of ZEN and they said that they'll love this feature. And even I wouldn't mind spending money into the game if it could actually be more fully enjoyable. And I'm sure that if anybody has active friends like I do. You'll most likely notice that you'll have at least 2 friends with close enough gear scores.
Also, to still get the AD and glory or else there wouldn't be a point in doing it. As many people want to harvest on glory and AD.
No, I only meant in the cities. Out in a zone somewhere, meh, whatever -- but camped out by the mailbox, or auction house or Rhix, etc. That would be lame (and, of course, how I would expect them to implement it).

Your probably right with the expectations. I can't think of one game that has done this though I'm sure there are examples.
The problem with this, the foundry author would then be blamed for the class balance. It's the same with the end chests. Foundry authors have no control over what is inside. Dose that stop people giving 1 star ratings for this? No, not at all and the fact that the rubbish you get from the chests in game are just as bad seems to have gone unnoticed.
So as much as I would like PVP foundry options. The ability to make 1v1 should be put on hold until some more builds are added. Like a dps cleric build for example.
Yea, like Cryptics other game Champions. It pretty much allows dueling anywhere and anyplace. They actually had to code a few places special, after the fact, to disallow it due to out of control griefing.
Even when special duel areas were made, it was too little, too late. No one uses them and would rather duel right in the city center. To the point where unless you wish to be spammed with challenge requests. (with actual giant rockets falling from the sky marking the challenge area in a spectacular annoying fashion) Most folks simply try, to avoid the area. Shame the center is clustered with vendors and needed services.
This is an area where Cryptics track record has been exceptionally poor. Id rather not see the same mistakes happen here.
While the area wouldn't need to be huge, it still needs to be fairly large, about the size from 2 to the back steps of one or 3 in the volcanic looking pvp map. (can't remember the name) If you make it smaller than that you are going to imbalance duels against cw and hrs etc. Can you imagine a cw trapped in a small room with a GWF? Yeah the cw would get pulled off the wall with a sponge without room to move and dodge.
Yeah I'm actually thinking the same thing. I really would not like to see duels happening in Protector's Enclave itself. More lag, no thanks. PE is bad enough as it is for me. But for quest zones, man it'd be fun to hold events there. So many beautiful places we can use as arenas out there in the wild.
Quest zones like Sharandar or Dread Ring, etc sounds like a PERFECT idea. It could be out in the back somewhere not to bother other people. Because there's a lot of people, there could be an auto-decline option for people who don't want to be spammed. And for people who are worried about queueing being off balanced could merely turn auto-decline off when their friend arrives. Also, like the Trade button a person has to be close to you and you can't be in combat. This also deals with spamming. But it'll still be good idea if a person only wants their friends to send them a request to move to a small instance in an area with little people.
For the pvp area to be small, but not too small. However, it doesn't need to be equally as large as 5 player pvp. Maybe Beta tested or something to see if it's large enough for 2 people?
What is there to win? Didn't you ever wanted to know who is better? you or friend? have you never had a rival with who you just want to fight??
ALSO FOR ALL THE DUDES COMPLAINING ABOUT REWARDS
you could simply ask for a option to add a bet, each oponent put something, he who wins takes it all, be it coin, be it whatever you want (besides the non tradeble stuff)
what could go wrong?
it will bring a whole new joy to the game, ofc some classes are overpowered, but you can inspect before challenging!
Also as said above, it would have to be inside a arena, and there should be a proper challenging place, and if you wanted to do it just like PVP? go to the instance where there are more people in that PLACE and go randomly challenging, being abble to say what you're offering as a reward for beating you, when you get challenged, in the challenge you could alredy see what gear/stats the other guy has, so you don't go in disavantage ofc!
Nothing would be HAMSTER since you can simply trade things directly, it would be more fun to win itens by simply fightning with other guys, to create strategies, it would be like who is fast rogue going stealth or mage pulling up, but well thats the fight, you would have to figure a way to avoid that!
also you should add options in the challenge menu, like no artifacts allowed, no potions allowed, no enchantments allowed, no movement allowed
and then you could even choose which arena you want... but that's a bit more tricky, i just want to 1vs1!!! but you guys could actually make something that would make alot of people come back and play, or even do the whole day!!!!
THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!
For 1v1 small is okay -- but we really need really large areas for full on PvP zones.
Warhammer did PvP zones really well -- large areas, castle siege/defense, siege weapons, etc.

It'll all depend on how many people would actually want a pvp zone. There would be no point in creating one if only a few people are going to do it. I guess all the hardcore pvpers would be in. But it could be a waste of time if not a lot of people are going to do it. And we could POTENTIALLY deal with the same problem of hardcore pvp players totally wiping out people who aren't as strong. If a person has a bunch of blues and greens or if a person has lvl 5 enchantments or less. It could POTENTIALLY make them an easy target. Adding monsters could briefly force people into working together. But once the monsters are dead you could kill off the weakest player immediately afterwards. Kinda going back to how 5 people on my team were totally WIPED OUT by ONE person who's HP didn't go down not even one bar. I'll imagine some of the weaker players would grow tired of it. Some would work harder or spend money. But given from what we could already see with pvp leavers. I could imagine people just leaving. I guess it'll depend on how often one person gets targeted. If it happens too frequently b/c they're not strong enough. Eventually the strong players could pick off the weak players one by one. Until eventually, it's only fun for the strong. I think people who are so determined to get strong would be few in number. Because there is school, work, friends, relationships, etc. Most people, if they're going to be determined in anything it's going to be in real life. But that's my 2 cents. Not like I could predict the future or anything. Just a theory.
