Feedback/Questions about Winter Festival

Summer Event: Fairly easy to get multiple characters the pig companion.

Winter Event: Takes a long time to build up the tokens, so not nearly a easy to get more than two or three characters the fawn companion before the end.

Summer Event: Two different mounts from the daily tokens.

Winter Event: Different mounts on both the daily token and the event token shops, making it more possible to get both if you wanted them but less possible to get both the mimic and the sled mount.

In general: I may want the fawn that badly for all of my characters, but it doesn't look like I have chance at all of actually achieving this based on what I've seen so far unless you're hiding conversion vendors somewhere for converting the unused tokens (the shield and the globe that are only used in a small portion of the profession).

Map is nice and all, but isn't this somehow a replicate of the Midsummer Festival?

And about the activities, the Twilight Run(or w/e it's called) was fun for once, while the others were so-so.

Just a personal rundown on each of the contests, in no particular order:

    Twilight Run

Only time worth doing it is during the contest I suppose? But it gets boring after a few runs and why is there a cinematic in the end everytime?

    Monsters on Ice

The monsters are rather simple to kill and the zone is flooded with players during the contest, so doubt it's any better.

    Fishing Contest

This is the activity which intrigued me the most, like how is this any fun?

Press F to fish, sounds simple enough, but why the need to press F for every fish? (sometimes there's none)

Overall, I personally find the zone chat in that map much more entertaining and active than the event itself, seeing players boasting about being the top scorer like it's their life achievement, etc.

For you perhaps, others may see them as good fun ...

Watching and participating in sporting events is a big thing for many people, and that includes digital sports as well, Just ask E.A.

As for the cinematics? It's like the cinematics for Bosses, it's annoying, but really not that big of an issue for most I'd say

Remember this Event goes for 20 days, and this is only the FIRST day, so yeah, some events will be crowded NOW, but give it a few days and things will settle down ...

I kinda see them like Skill Nodes, yes in skill nodes you always get something, but let's be honest, it ain't always great stuff, other times though you can get some real great drops ... Same with the fishing ... Plus I believe a certain memberof the Cryptic tream did say something about "Bonus" times, so you never know ...

Though I am reminded of a quote made by John Travolta in the movie Swordfish, which I won't repeat here ... (you know the one)

Like any other benchmark/goal/achievement in any game "xx High GS"? Stroke your epeen ... "xxxx Slayer"? ... Stroke your epeen ... Without things to strive for, the game would be quite boring, and it's well known, time honoured and well established tradition among gamers world wide to Str ... errr... Proclaim vocally and loudly about things like that.

The end cinematic can be skipped by using ESC.

On that note, Who was smoking what when you guys decided to let horses slide down a slalom! I nearly died when I found out you could ride down!
Monsters On Ice introduces a new skill element which is surprisingly entertaining. The companions sliding here and there, a Troll slid by me and I swear he said "Me slide by you!"
The fishing is nice. And there are some surprises in the bags you catch too.
Skill nodes are also giving Simril. The quickling hunt in Sharandar is rewarding Simril too, as I'm sure the other mini games are doing as well. So it seems your not limited to doing Winter festival activities in order to obtain the items to turn in for rewards. Save maybe the token thing you get for looking in the telescope everyday. Its probably the only place to get that.

personally, i just can't stop fishing.

and i love the sliding on ice thing. one of the other mods suggested including it as a boss mechanic. remove the adds in FH and give us icecapades!

the slalom was cool... however i'll be spending a lot of time fishing.

overall, i think it's awesome. i almost forgot to do my dread ring dailies in between the winter festival and SCA! oh my!

    This. I find it obsessive. Which isn't to say I find it exciting, or action-packed. It's not. But I can't ... stop ... pressing ... "F".

If they fix the colored lights around the fishing holes, it might be more interesting again, with people running from hole to hole. I don't know what the story is on that aspect...holes had colors at first, skeletons popped out once in a while, and the holes temporarily dried up for a few...but then that all went away and it's just sit at the same hole the whole time.

I'll say it ... D*** you Cryptic! ... I logged in this morning, essentially to install the update and invoke on my toons, like all other mornings, except THIS morning ... Yep, I got caught up in a**ing about with Fishing and Sliding about on the ice (and watching companions running on the spot Charlie Chaplin style Lol) Slaloms, Killing monsters, Fishing (again) getting my fortune told ... And the next thing you know ... Holy S*** ... I gotta go to work ...

Tokens? Fawn? Did you mean the Mimic?

The Fawn ... a purple fishing pole + bait and it's not too bad. 260-400 Lights per hour of fishing, more or less, depending on luck and dedication (eg not distracted by chat, heh). 20 days to do it in. At least it was ... don't know if they're going to patch fishing that'll change my personal numbers (like putting the colored lights back).

Just remember, they adjusted all of the drop-rates WAY up for the last week or so of the Summer Festival so folks could more quickly grind out those last few items. I could easily see them doing something similar with Winter.

'Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. Therefore, he understood, there is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.' Terry Pratchet The Thief Of Time

What does the winter scarfs do?

Its just a transmute item for your necklace , it costs nothing to transmute and it looks quite good ( on my CW at least )

Point taken and dismissed, mrspuma. You neglect that I'm talking about multiple characters. The pig companion was easy for that. This, not so much. Maybe 1, possibly two, pushing it for three fawn unless you're literally playing the game as if it's your full time job.

    Good poing, jorifice1. Here's hoping.

Agree the zone chat is entertaining...my favorite moment was being called a bot while winning the contest but not bragging about it.

I believe they are doubling up the rewards the last week of this event as well. At least that's what I remember seeing the last time I checked the calendar in game . :)

Yeah, it is definitely a grind. But I'm thinking I'll be able to get 6, maybe 7, with about 4 hours a day (300x4=1200 per day, x20 days). Since I'm playing no other game at the moment and don't have a family to take care of etc, entirely doable for me. More if they do double it half way through or something.

I have 13 chrs, btw. So I do know the feeling of wanting a lot for multiples. :)

To be competitive you must press the spacebar to skip the cinematic and have autorun enable so you are riding towards the start line once again.

P.S. - I'm not sure I'll actually get 6 or 7, however. Summer Festival I ran out of steam for some of the days and I ended up buying a few pigs off the AH to supplement. I may end up doing the same thing, if there's enough Fawns put up on the AH.

Then again, I find the fishing more OCD-relaxing than competing for picking flowers, so...if I end up with 10 Fawns and you need another one, I'll let you know. ;)

I can't say much about this one, as the one character I tried it with became a victim of the 'crash and now your character is locked' bug.
    Monsters on Ice

The monsters are rather simple to kill and the zone is flooded with players during the contest, so doubt it's any better.

If you get on the ice, the movement mechanics add a new wrinkle to the fight. It can be fun to mess around with that.

This is the activity which intrigued me the most, like how is this any fun?

I'm guessing, with this being a game and all, that they want to maintain at least some interaction with the player, even if it is at the most basic level of in game interaction.

I'm loving the Winter Festival! My characters get to do fun things with the snow and ice that I used to enjoy - and I don't get cold, wet or injured! I just love sliding around and watching my companions trying to follow me as they slide off in the wrong direction! As a retired oldie, I'm enjoying the laid-back feel of the whole thing - and all 5 of my characters want a mimic! At least one of those will be named 'The Luggage'.... :D
A dream to some, a NIGHTMARE to others!

    Lolth be praised!

Did my comment really just get hidden removed from one of the mods? Can I really not crack jokes without wondering if it'd be censored. Seems hard to contribute when threads are locked that I want to add to or posts are hidden despite not having an attitude issue that you'd expect =/. Maybe they just didn't detect satire...

    Anyway. SNOWBALLS WHERE!? ):

Not overly a fan of people creating huge groups for the contests. Dunno if it's always been like this. Just returning to the game since just after launch. :|

    My overall feedback:
    1. Fishing - hitting "F" repeatedly is somewhat boring. If they do intend to keep it in the game, as one other thread suggests,
it needs to be jazzed up a bit. Would also be nice to see items being pulled up vs just fish.

    2. Slalom - pretty nice, although I have no clue where the "bonuses" are gained. I saw nothing along the course to aim for that triggers bonuses.

    3. Goblin Kill Zone - killing things for XMas, err, Winter Festival. How festive. Killing.
Beyond that, it gives too much of an advantage to ranged characters. Tag a bunch of mobs with a ranged AE, move on, let the melee finish them off.

The ice physics appeared to be a bit "off" from what I've seen in other games.

Beyond the events, the whole zone did not at all appear festive to me. It was dark, barely lit with the monochrome lights, and
had a somewhat macabre tone with all the wolves howling. Make it daylight next year, have some colored lights, christmas trees and the like. Make it appear Merry and Bright. :)
