Just the top five quests on the best tab have over 500,000 plays between them and almost all the quests on the best tab have anywhere from 1000 to 200000 plays. When a quest is featured it goes from hundreds of plays to thousands in a few days.
The emphasis should not be about getting more players to play foundry but to spread the plays between the quests. Insuring that we continue to have a thriving foundry community and as a consequence authors get better at making their quests.
It is sad that many of the 'featured quests' authors are no longer playing the game or making quests. Yet, they continue to get thousands of plays when other authors that are now on their fifth, six plus quests struggle to get any plays.
The best tab should have more movement, the best way to do this would be to scrap the adjusted rating and work from an average based on the last 30 plays for each quest. In addition to this the new tab should be fixed and every quest should have a week on the review tab (No matter how big it gets at times).
Imagin if youtube worked the way the best tab did, all we would be able to find is Michael Jackson, Prince and U2 songs. I'm just saying.... move with the times. Those three quests at the top of the best tab, they were great... six months ago. The foundry has moved on and they are just average these days and people would see this if they could only find the quests.
And please, remove featured quests from the best tab. It is dumb that the list is one quest, then it's duplicate, then another quest followed by it's duplicate and so on. There would be room for another 10+ quests if this is done.
work from an average based on the last 30 plays for each quest
How would we/cryptic combat malicious 1-stars? We see it now, and it can tank adjusted ratings for newer quests. If it would only base average on the last 30 plays, it would be short work for someone with a vendetta to ruin someone else's rise to the list.
Perhaps a "Today/This Week/All Time" option of sorting the "best"?

With the system I suggest this would be less of a problem. Each player can only rate a quest once. If it was based on only the last 30 plays (this could be more but no more than 50) so it would be too much work for people to keep down rating quests as they would need more accounts to do so. This would also make it easy for cryptic to spot said people.
I agree with everything you said, love the idea.
I hope the devs care enough about the foundry to make this, it really doesn't need a huge amount of work. They gave us 3d editing with the past module wich is a LOT more work than this, but yet, I haven't seen them mention this problem.
I hope they read this. It's very important to give new quests more chances to be played, and not having the old same quests played over and over again.

I disagree with rating quests once. I've done a quest and given a poor review. The author has then pm'ed me and asked more questions about my problems with it. After some back and forth the author fixed the problems and I went back in, found the quest fun and gave it a good review. Only being able to rate a quest once would make interactions like this not possible.
I think it's impossible to find a perfect solution, for both rating and reviews, so we'll have to agree in something.
We know that some people are getting 1 star ranking just because others don't want those quests to succeed.
I think that you should only be able to rate and review each quest once, but you should also be able to edit that review later. So in cases like the one you mentioned if would be possible to edit both the rating and the review, but not constantly giving it new reviews and ratings.

That would work. I just don't want to lose the ability to up my rating if an author fixes problems. As long as that still works I'm good with a change, I just think that that kind of interaction is a net positive. Griefing as you describe absolutely needs to be eliminated.

I mean you can only have one, you can change it. It's no different to now. So you can rate a quest 10 times, with a five star. It will still only count has one towards the adjusted rating.
I would even go so far as to say that if you renew your rating it could be refreshed in the 30 that way, loyal players that play every day get there say. This would only work if you could report someone that's one staring everyday and it be delt with.
I build quests mainly because I enjoy doing so, not to have hundreds or thousands of plays. Of course I would like it a lot more if the system would give more chances to new quests to be played, and if they fixed the problems with profane or random assets that get screwed up, but play amount isn't the reason I build quests.

You. I like you.
And this is my philosophy. I make the missions for fun. If someone plays, yay. If no one does, alrighty. Eventually it will be seen. And if I really want I could always try to promote it here and on the other sites for Foundry Authors I have seen.

...
This is the biggest issue right now, more important than adding author tools IMO
My experience was busting my rear to make three missions, carefully frame them to run reliably in 15-25 minutes, and then advertise as much as possible here in forums.
Begging for plays resulted in... 200 plays. Total.
And then updates broke all my missions horribly and they dropped the dialog limit horribly because hey, who makes a lot of dialog for a mission, amirite?
Continued commentary from devs made it clear they had not only not paid any attention to the experiences in STO, but were so far from understanding what Foundry needs things will never get better.
So I pulled the broken missions and pretty much quit Neverwinter.
I keep checking this forum out of the pathetic shred of a hope that the only UGC mmo experience around might possibly start moving in a good direction.
Campaign: The Fenwick Cycle NWS-DKR9GB7KH
Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?
Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?
Into the Fen Wood: NW-DL89DRG7B : Enter the heart of the forest. Can you discover the secret of the Fen Wood?

Am I right in thinking that your was the one that had all the tree problems? If so then you did get it worse than most. I'm sad you feel that way and your not on your own, many authors have upped and left. I tried to myself and after going to wow for a few weeks I tried a bunch of games, age od wushu, ffIV, firefly, rift. The problem I found is that my mind kept coming back to making my own quests. So like you said on another thread if you are going to get the most out of it then you need to expect the worse and accept it. Which is exactly what I did. I do hope they fix things and people start to return.
Edit: I wish I could get 200 plays on my Magical Mystery Tour. That's what dreams are made of.

Question on this point:

Course I haven't really made anything.....YET.

Check out my Foundry missions:
Standalone - The Great Escape - The Galaxy's Fair - Purity I: Of Denial - Return to Oblivion
Untitled Series - Duritanium Man - The Improbable Bulk - [WIP] Commander Rihan
Agreed....
...But I wouldn't mind boss fights. Or more to the point a huge bar that suggests it's a boss fight.
