I played this game during the open beta and got a max level control wizard.
The main reason I quit was due to time constraints from a raiding guild in wow and work, recently my guild broke up and looking to come back.
How difficult would it be for someone who is willing to spend a moderate amount of money (about 50$ or so) to get back into the swing of things? My gear is pretty much trash and as I recall the economy was pretty borked (as most games are on release and i'm sure this is at least partially fixed)
What do people do to make money now? Any tips? How active is the grouping scene? Community still pretty big?
One thing I remember was that end game was pretty boring. Is end game a little more robust now?
Thanks in advance guys, I really liked this and it was unfortunate I was too busy to really enjoy it, hoping with the extra time I have now I'll be able to.
Also looking for a guild with scheduled events or that is extremely active (yet friendly to returning players) are those pretty prominent?
Is the cat still one of the best pets? if not what is?

Yeah, either the Cat or the Ioun Stone of Allure. If you do not have one yet, check the active companion stat of each and decide which fits your playstyle most.
If you're going to keep playing your CW, you should head over to The Library.
Besides that, check out the new zones Sharandar and Dread Ring and do the dailies to advance and get boons.
I'm mostly curious about the community. and My gear as I recall is T2 I want to say? mid grade at the time. with pretty poor augments.
lets just say I was a fresh how hard is it to jump into things?
(downloading now I'll put more info up when i get in)

The biggest difference you will notice is that the companion and refinement systems have now been completely redesigned. The first one is a major imprevement and pretty much universally liked - the second one is ..... more debated, to put it politely....
Another change is the new level 60 content (Sharandar and Dread Ring) - new instances, dungeons and skirmishes....generally seen as an improvement.
The various events (Call-To-Arms, Summer festival, Masquerade and so on) have been generally well received ... some better than others, of course.
Some long-standing issues have been fixed - the ability to vote-kick people from groups and to add new people into dungeon groups (although they messed that up badly, creating a major exploit).
Overall, yea...it is a better game than it was a few months ago.
is gear all still BoE? that use to sort of bother me, made gearing up feel sort of cheap (not a game changer I still play EQ on firiona vie some times but just curious)
I just read about the fusion changes not sure how I feel about that. seems odd. Guess i'll have to give it a whirl.
The pet change seems cool if not a zen sink opening up all the slots and upgrading pets. Luckily I already did some of that.
Looks like I missed out on some of the best pets for me during events D=

Gear that is from drops is BoE. Gear from Dungeon Delves Chests is BoP.
As of Module 2 you get five active companion slots for free at level 60.
Additional slots are only sold to allow you to have additional slots before level 60.
And while there have been bumps in the road the game is constantly improving. Of course improvements can very much be a perspective issue but what some people call a nerf others call balance. I won't lie and say the game is perfect but like most MMO's is only getting better with time and we have seen major improvements just in the few months since launch.

Ah....no, that's another change - most T1/T2 pieces are now BoP - fortunately an anti-ninja change was made too, you cannot "need" on items you cannot use. A BoE piece may drop, but their AH prices has gone way up ... you cannot easily buy a full T2 set at the AH within minutes of reaching level 60 (well, you can, but it will be really, really expensive),
Not all changes to the game have been good. Reinforced gauntlets were made BoP, which destroyed those as an AD source for players... two new professions were added (weaponsmithing and artificing), but they are mostly utterly useless waste of time and AD - so, professions are worse than they were originally.

No it's almost all BoP now. Less ans less things can be AH-ed as time goes by. Gear, Coalescent/preservation wards.
At level 60 there are new areas and new dungeons, or better said more areas and more dungeons. You also have much more opportunities to tune your char the way you like, through the "boons", the companions passive bonus, the artifacts.
A new class has appeared. Yet there are still only five slots in dungeon parties. But unlike Melee classes, CW is unaffected and still pretty much in demand.
You will need to buy one or two 24-slots bags, the new refining system has brought dozens of things that will take slots in your inventory.

Quite the opposite, I'd say. Before the new refining system I used to have around 20 slots occupied with different enchantments I was upgrading. Now almost everything goes directly into my equipped enchantments for refining. I have a lot more free inventory space now than before, and that's very nice.
There's also two quests (one in Blacklake and one in Neverwinter Gravyard) that rewards inventory bags, so most people won't need to buy any extra bags. You can also store items in mail, the bank and on alts.
I have those quest bags, I have five bags by the way. But now,
- there are still in my inv the enchants from lvl 5 on, being in the process of refining
- there are the food enchants, plus the level 3 enchants that, before module2, I did not bother collecting, but I am collecting them now as refining food.
- there are all the dedicated refining food, those new things, the peridots, the stones,, the marks, the blue marks, the purple marks

In regards to gear, it depends what you have now.
Lots of variation opportunity because of the companion bonuses.

Would have been the perfect trap
