need some help with a new/old pc

My laptop acer that cost me 700-800 Dollars broken down on me 2 days before the new patch release, But i'll save you the sad story.

I needed a new pc to play this game just into i get the money to fix it, So i got old first pc with was a ..............Compaq Evo D500 Pentium 4 1.7GHZ CPU processor out and have about 20-40$ dollars to upgrade it just enough to play this game on the lowest setting with little lagg

i really can't say but the motherboard battery acid started coming out and they said i had to put 300-400 with my warranty to get qa new one but in the meant time I need a pc that can play neverwinter so if possible could you give me feedback on weather this pc can run one of the follow processor's/graphic's

OP, the Core 2 Duo is worlds better than the Pentium D's - the Pentium D's, though they are dual-cores, share a single data channel, so they get bogged down. They also run very hot. Core 2 Duo's run cooler, have distinct channels, and can be overlocked like crazy, without getting very hot).

We'd need an exact budget to advise you better.

Check http://videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php - You really want a Passmark G3D rating of 2000 or better to enjoy modern games, so compare video card performance...


In checking the Evo D500 specs, it appears to only have PCI slots - no PCI-E/PCI Express, so your video card selection is very limited. It may not be worth investing much money in it.

Install Belarc Advisor, (it's a free program), and check the CPU clot and thermal design capacity - you cannot use a CPU that requires more power than the slot/motherboard is designed more...

i check the game req. and i believe my processor can run the game ik my graphic card can't tho.
i seen a standard pci graphic card for 100$ and another for 10-50 i think the 10-150 is a intel 4 pentuim extrame graphix card switch cost 1000$ like 5 years ago idk why tho. But i just need to play the game on this pc for like 3 week just into i get another part time job i dont have 400 dollars to fix my acer. If you can could you give me a link of a list of Standard pci gc ?

OP, fix your last post - there's all this blank space in it. Regarding the video card, from what I checked, your computer can only take regular PCI cards. Below is a reference guide for the slot types:

You also definitely want more RAM - 1G is barely enough to run Win7 by itself.
Memory should be fairly cheap now, so you want at least 4G minimum, 8G would be even better.

I did some digging, and it looks like hte Compaq Evo D500 SFF can take up to 3 GB of RAM, 1GB in each of 3 slots. The bad news is that it doesn't look like it's even DDR RAM at all - which might mean it'll be expensive to buy it, since it's no longer made.

Newegg still has some PC-133 SDRAM. It looks like they only carry up to 512MB, and it's about $26 per stick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820224032

That PC has a AGP 8x slot good luck finding one of those on the cheap ( you will need at least a 512 mb on agp) and it has to be a half height, check ebay you can get a pretty descent PC cheap on there,

Before you buy any parts, power down the computer, disconnect the power cord, open up the PC, and take note of the actual slots and serial numbers inside. There seem to be some conflicting results as to what exact slots you have available, and how many RAM slots you have. Take stock of all of that, then make your decision. Good luck!
