Do the companion slots for sale in the Zen shop just unlock one of the five slots early, or do they have no effect at all? (I don't have enough AD or Zen to test.) If it's the former, then a price drop seems fair. If it's the latter, then they need to be removed from the shop ASAP before more people buy them unknowingly. Refunds are more awkward because of the whole "can change nature of service at any time" line in the Terms of Service, but future reworking may be in order....

I think I read that players who bought the unlocks before Shadowmantle have access to all 5 slots from level 1 whereas people who didn't buy them have to level up to get access to them all.

I sent in a ticket about active companion slots purchased before module two and inquired as to why they were still for sale, heres what I wrote:

I had purchased an active companion slot for my character, and since the new system came out giving everyone 5 active companion slots (the max) at level 60 I have basically lost the active slot I purchased. I was wondering if it would be possile to get the zen that I spent to purchase this refunded to my account. Also if the you get 5 active companion slots at level 60 then you need to either stop selling active companion slots, or increase the number of active companion slots you can get.

    << removed private communication >>

so basically a "thanks for your money, sucks to be you" stance, and not a word about why they are leaving active companion slots in the zen store to potentially rip off other players.

In preparation for the patch I bought 4 companion slots so that I was at 5 active on my 2 favorite characters. Another guildie of mine spent 4200 zen on companion active slots for his army of alts.

This is crappy. Not telling players about the new free active slots took advantage of people who were actually excited about the patch and were preparing for the new content.

A refund would be appropriate. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

If you bought active companion slots before Module 2, you had the benefit of them from purchase up until module launch.

If you bought active companion slots for a low level character after module launch (or for a character which was still below level 60 at module launch) you had the benefits of the extra active companions from time of purchase up until level 60.

If you bought active companion slot just before module launch anticipating active companion bonuses... you really should have done your homework better. The announcement that active companions would have bonuses was accompanied by the announcement of active slots being unlocked at levels 30 and 60, in the very same posts in General Discussion and the Preview Feedback forums.

You can try sending in a ticket and making your case for a refund, but I don't really see many people being successful. QQing on the forum isn't going to accomplish much, if anything.

They should have given you the same as everyone: 2 additioinal slots.
This would give you now 7 companion slots.

If they do not, then they really screwed you, as you should have 2 additional slots to others who did not spend ZEN for slots.

At the least this should be done although only the first 5 should count for 'active pet' bonuses.

Well, they don't really have any obligation to refund people who bought before the change. It always said a maximum of 5 slots. These 2 slots used to be a purchased feature, but now they make it available for free. No refunds are warranted for that, just kudos for making it free going forward.

However, there are a number of problems with continuing to sell it as described now. At the very least, it should be unavailable to level 60s because it doesn't do anything for them. It should also be impossible to buy more than 2 on a given character for the same reason. The text should also be altered to clearly state that it unlocks "early access" to the slots because you will get them anyway. So any 60's that bought them after they unlocked the 5th slot already should be given a refund. I know that the description clearly states a maximum of 5 slots, but it's just good customer service to refund anyway.

350 ZEN is also a little steep to unlock these slots early. I don't think it should be any more than 100 ZEN. If they change it to an account unlock so that all your characters can start with the extra slot then maybe 350 would be OK, but I don't think I'd pay more than 250 for that.

Ideally, what I really think they should do is move this purchase to an AD purchase directly from the Companions window in game. Put in an Unlock Early button that has a mouseover that says, "This slot will unlock automatically at level x. Click here to unlock it early for this character. This will cost y AD." I would suggest no more than 100K AD to unlock slot 4 early and 150K AD to unlock slot 5 early.

And I am not in favor of allowing a 6th and 7th slot via ZEN only due to the P2W outrage that would spark because of the active bonuses.

So, basically convert any extras to idle slots? I don't think that's a great solution since it only costs 100 ZEN for 8 idle slots. So, the price of an active slot is currently equal to 28 idle slots.

This post is sensible. I hope the dev(s) in charge of this will find this post and consider it.

to the OP: this isn't really a discussion for the forums. if you'd like to request a refund for purchased items, you would do that through customer service via the support website or by sending an email to customerservice@perfectworld.com. it would be entirely up to their discretion.

also, posting private communications between you and PWE is a violation of the forum rules of conduct, rule 3.03. it is considered a breach of privacy per the terms of service, section 11:
You agree not to post, upload to, transmit, distribute, store, create or otherwise publish through the Site any of the following:

    (a) User Content that is unlawful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, indecent, lewd, suggestive, harassing, threatening, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory, fraudulent or otherwise objectionable;

as for the suggestions made, they're good suggestions. we'll make sure the CMs see them.

    thanks.
