Module 2 - Test Your Quest

edited December 2013 in The Foundry
After the Feywild release of Module 1, there were many unexpected bugs and changes that ruined quite a few quests.

I would HIGHLY recommend that everyone make a point to run a test of your own quest within the first few days after Module 2 hits tomorrow.

If I recall correctly, Cryptic also had to REPUBLISH the entire quest catalog after the Module 1 update. This may happen again. I have not seen confirmation nor denial of this, but don't be surprised if you log in and can't find your quest right away. (Though I think they did this to implement the Tagging system, so it might not be a requirement for every Module update.)

Testing your own quest will allow you to make sure everything still works the way you intend (and will prevent some bad/negative Reviews from being left due to bugs you can't control).

If you do find a bug:
A. If it is a quest-breaking bug: unpublish your quest (prevent players from getting stuck/downrating you)
B. Use the ingame bug report tool
C. Find or Create a topic in the NW Bugs Reports Forum: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/forumdisplay.php?901-Bugs-Reports
D. Let us know about it here in the Foundry Forum (you can link your bug report post in this thread - I'll update this initial post with your findings)

Actually... this is just good practice for any major update when game content is added.

Usually, after a massive update like this, they often will completely shutdown the Foundry until game-play bugs are discovered and quashed, then open-up the Foundry for play, then eventually open the editor. Though the Neverwinter Devs operate differently than the STO Devs. So I suppose we'll see what happens.

Nonetheless: good advice to always go play your own works after any major content update or change.

Thank you for the advice. I'm newer to the forums as well as the foundry. Is there any way to back up the quests we have made?

The quests will reside on the Foundry servers - there is not any other option to back them up.

That said, the Devs have been very vocal about their concern for data loss and taking every precaution to protect your work. For one particularly large issue with a corrupt map after Module 1, the devs went through the effort of helping to manually rebuild the map (@trishani's Answer the Raven's Call quest). The particular issue with that map type was unique, and I wouldn't fear to see something of that magnitude again.

My own quests were not harmed by Module 1, but there were some bugs that others experienced.

I'm not intending to spread any doom and gloom - just advising that a little testing can go a long way.

(Also remembering that the republish of the catalog occurred because they implemented the new Tagging system with Module 1. So unsure if they will need to do that again this round.)

Thank you. Not considering it doom and gloom. It's a wise reminder. After creating and maintaining 2 large persistent worlds on multiple servers in Neverwinter Nights years ago, I should have anticipated such things...but did not. With that I had multiple back-ups on my side though, which left me feeling safer but always dreading major updates.

This is a hobby not a job **** you Jim.....

Oh wait, great points problem is many of the Authors have moved on(as evident by the lack of any activity on this board). So the few that remain active can do this. Wish they would create a group that could report bugged foundrys to be taken off the list until fixed and republished!

True, not a job. It's a great hobby, but a hobby that requires a large investment of time. Back-ups are essential.

I agree with de-listing bugged ones. I think authors should have to update their quests monthly. Even something as simple as a "renew" button in the foundry main screen. Unless they have X amount of traffic.

Lot's of things to wish for, but I don't want to derail a good post.

Why a group? Why not just a simple database script?
If quest run 6 consecutive times with 0 "completions" - unpublish.
Sounds like it ought to be pretty simple.

Because Eldath if they did that and jealous writers figured it out......not that hard to tank the mission 20 times in a row to have it pulled off the list.

True dat. Okay, how about 10 independent accounts, non guild related?
...or at least that could "flag" them to be vetted by a PWE or moderated group of some kind.

At 6, I'd end up tanking my own. Every time I try to play one, I stop half way through to leave and change something in the Foundry! That and traffic for new quests like mine is S L O W.

Just a reminder to test your quest when you can.

And a few known issues as reported by Sominator:
We'd identified the following known issues with today's Module 2 maintenance:

-If your characters are low enough level / haven't spent feat points, the game may attempt to respec them and fail with a red error message in the middle of the screen. The error message will pop every time you change maps (this is an issue for GWF and DC since they have forced respecs).
-There is a case where the game will try to reset players' graphics settings multiple times, until the player restarts his/her client.
-Entering the first Foundry screen, then backing up to the Character Select screen, may temporarily disable the Foundry button. This fixes itself when logging in then returning to character select.
-Several featured Foundry projects are failing republish due to profanity filter changes. We're currently investigating.

-If Refinement reagents are in the Overflow bag, Upgrading will not work, and there's currently not an error message to indicate the issue.

    - Currently, you may not be able to reclaim Hunter Ranger Booster Pack items on another character on the same account even though the items may be account-wide.
    - Rare Profession tasks are currently not showing up on Gateway.
    - If a gem had been slotted in gear before Shadowmantle release, that gem will not get bonus XP if fed matching gems.
    - There are some reports about characters missing free respecs.
    - Some players may experience issues with respeccing their characters' feats.

We're currently working on fixes to these issues. Please let us know in this thread if you're experiencing them, and if you have any further information!

My foundry option is greyed out and I get a hover message saying it is unavailable at this time. My quests, not featured, are not showing up in game either. Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks, I will test my campaign tomorrow, when they are re-published, especially the last quest chapter with a big pit down trap.

Updated main post with link to the thread for new Profanity filter words. This prevents publishing of your quest until you remove the word that has been marked as profanity.
