Black Screen Of Death please help me =(

hey guys as my title says i have some problems with the neverwinter preview server look this is wat happend always i start the game after its patched i wait untell it brings me to the character selcetion screen and yeh there starts the problem everytime when i reached the character selection screen(or at least i thinks its the character slection screen) i always get a black screen of death i can hear the music and stuff but i cant see anything only the cursor and a black screen so is there anything i can fix this ??????

    That's exactly what happened to me after I managed to get a new Ranger up to level 5 on the Preview Server. I closed the game at that point so that I could "copy" an existing level 40'ish CW to the Preview Server. After that, the game would appear to launch normally right up until it the choose character screen. This screen would not load, though I would get music and the game curser. I can even log into the game (I recognize the in-game sounds), but the screen never changes from black. This is only an issue on the Preview server.

    yea the graphics display is bugged for some people.
    i do have a work around but it might be a bit of a headache.
    ---

    go to folder
    C:\Program Files\Perfect World Entertainment\Neverwinter_en\Neverwinter
    and delete playtest file, and download a fresh patch from the server

    lower your desktop resolution to 800x600 before launching the game
    once in game at character selection screen go to options and graphics
    settings change window to window maximized.

    long as you stay in 800x600 resolution with window max, you should
    have no issue getting on the server. hopefully this helps.
    ---
    Side note: once your in game you can minimize the game
    increase your resolution to previous settings.

    just remember to load up the game in 800x600 resolution.

    Hey, Thraexis, nice of you to share that tip. I WAS going to try this, but after visiting the actual Tech Support Forums decided to launch the game in Safe Mode (this is after I found I had same problem with the main Neverwinter server), and I tweaked a random video setting (think it was Rendor Distance). I saved, exited the game, and poof! No issues getting onto the Preview or Neverwinter servers. While I was having issues however, not only did I get a Cryptic "Send Us Details" pop-up window, I got an error message from my lame *** Nvidia card. I can only guess that something, somewhere, upset my video card. And I've seen an alarming number of reports from all sorts of Nvidia users who are also having issues. Pretty weird.
