November: Month of the Ranger (or Warlock) [?]

edited October 2013 in General Discussion (PC)
I've been playing Cryptic MMOs for four years (CO and STO) and after eight months of Neverwinter (since February 8th, when I stated) I can see the Neverwinter "department" of Cryptic Studios is pretty much status-quo on Cryptic paradigms (except for Zen Store pricing, but that's another discussion altogether).

The big wait right now is for whichever new player Class will be released, and when. I called it when the Drow would be released, when Open beta would begin and even when official "Live" status would hit. I don;t have any kind of inside knowledge or anything, but predicting this stuff isn;t rocket science.

It's simple observation, noticing patterns and basic deductive reasoning. Lead Neverwinter producer has already publicly stated that we (the players chatting in the forums) already have "outed the truth" in terms of what and when, but we don;t know it (the specifics).

So here's my prediction: Cryptic isn't stupid and they know they have to keep excitement up (especially with Neverwinter as it is their first "designed to be F2P" game. They've always done this with basic Z-Store updates every month or so, in-game updates every month or so (usually relatively trivial stuff, like the lockbox theme change, etc.) There also are the bi-annual holiday celebrations, and the occasional Halloween thing.

But the big updates, news-making, high-excitement stuff usually comes every ninety-days.

Thusly, on-schedule, Neverwinter has seen: Open Beta begin in May (June's "launch" into Live doesn't really count). 90-Days later, in August came the "generic Drow" and "High Elf" races along with the Feywild stuff. 90-Days after this will be the third week of November.

Therefore this third week in November will be the "big news" exciting content release (probably already developer-finished and in QA right now). We already know we'll see at least one new Class, which has already been (strongly) hinted at being a ranged Class, and it looks like it will be either a Ranger or Warlock (I'd be surprised if Cryptic releases both at this time) - and there will possibly be a new adventure "Zone", or at least a new story-arc to quest on (not counting whatever they have for Halloween).

So there it is: I say it's the third week in November when we'll get our new player character Class. I also predict it will be a Ranger (we already have a Wizard, not too far removed from a Warlock - so there is some redundancy in it).

If, by surprising chance, Cryptic releases both Ranger and Warlock and you only have one character slot left, which will you choose?

-justcurious-

UPDATED: I just realized I may be a month off... For some reason I'm remembering the Feywild extravaganza being released in August. So If I'm misremembering and it was actually July, then we should see our new toys this month in October, rather than November.

My point is that there is a pretty standard pattern Cryptic follows, which is that Awesome is always released every 90 days. :)

Just FYI: your math is a bit off. Open beta started 5/1 (iirc) and Module 1 was around 8/20. That's more like 110 days instead of 90.

I would say late November or early December. I'm guessing that we will also likely see the announcement of module 2 and the new class that comes with it next week, unless we get it today or tomorrow. Probably not long after that we will see it show up on Mimic as they finish polishing it.

Since the only official word we got on the matter is that it will be "before the end of the year", and since we're already partway through October, I wouldn't say it takes too much predictive power to say that the new class & module 2 will come in November.

Regardless, I do hope it's the archer ranger, as we already have 2 magic ranged classes. Along with that, however, I would also like to see, (but am doubtful), that the archer ranger will provide some additional team support/buff/healing abilities as well.

Open beta started on April 29th (unless you purchased a founder's pack, in which case you got to start a few days earlier).

Roughly two months later, on June 20th, the game went 'Live'.

Again, roughly two months later, on August 22nd, was the Feywild module.

By this pattern, it seems the OP is correct in thinking it will be end of October.

Actually, that may be what they're planning for Halloween.

Edit: In response to the OP's question...if they were to release both Ranger and Warlock and I had only one slot left, I'd buy two more slots and roll one of each.

I think your pretty close about the release date with maybe a week or two margin of error, however going from the IRC live Q&A:

    "Question from joshmiller83
When is the next class being released? My wife and I are waiting on it to begin playing! Really hoping its a Ranger type! :)
    ---
    TheSquez: Hey Josh
    joshmiller83: Evening! :)
TheSquez: oh man, next class question!!!!
TheSquez: man i would LOVE to say
    joshmiller83: Yeah. :)
    TheSquez: its #######"

I'm going to go with warlock for the new class as it has the exact same number of letters(7) where as ranger falls 1 letter short. Also have two character slots free in case I and TheSquez are wrong :p

    You have it ALL wrong.

Obviously. October is the month of the Witch!
Followed by November being the month of the Turkey
And December being the month of the Eskimo.

Id guess Ranger is more of a February thing :D

Yeesh, I got to teach you peoples everything!

Nah, it will be Warlock, and then maybe druid. Scourge Warlock is the class that they said was 50-60% complete.

Well, I'm STILL waiting for green-skinned halfling-half-elf race and magic-light-sword wielding ghed-eye class. But I suspect there just isn't enough demand to see it happen. No toga costumes, either.

    Go figure.

I'm guessing Ranger, Warlock in the forthcoming update, Druid and Bard in the one after that. Then more martial classes after that.

    Druids aren't healers.

I am puzzled as to why Paladins have been completely ignored in this conversation. They could incorporate healing, ranged bows and long swords all in one toon making it very versatile but not very focused. Maybe next year.

    After i get a bard :c

Unfortunatly there are not alot of games that have this as a class and i would like to play wow. Also..being a female, i by default am bad at everything besides healer. We now have 2 caster dps(CW and Ranger) and 2 Mele dps(TR and GWF) So please ad another healer, preferably a bard.

Im not going to lie when i say, i kinda bought the lillend just to pretend i was her, healing and damaging by strumming a lyre/harp type instrument.

I will heart them forever if they add a bard <3<3<3<3<3

Paladins aren't healers either in 4th edition. They are tanks.
