Gateway: Professions: Start Task is broken

The "Start Task" button has been dodgy for several updates, but after the last one it's horribly broken.
I just made *17* attempts to start a task, any task, and NONE of them make it onto my list of active tasks.
I have repeatedly reloaded the page, logged out and back in, waited half an hour, etc. The Start Task button is lit, I have all requirements met, but clicking Start Task returns me to the professions screen with a silent fail.
Firefox current ESR rev 9 on Windows 7.
