The best way to get the spammers to leave is for no one buy from them. Obviously people are buying from them or else there would be no profit and they would leave. Unfortunately people are stupid enough to buy from them because they have to have the gear "RIGHT NOW".
Because some people can not stop themselves from buying from the spammers, that is clearly not the best way.
A better way was to not let anybody in the game without knowledge of who they were. For instance by credit card check. If they spammed, all there accounts would be suspended.
And now they are merging the shards... that will give us 3 time as much spam from day one... just great!
What about some volunteers with power to kick/ban spammers from Zone Chat?
Not sure how effective that would be. In most cases the spammers pop on, drop their 3 lines, and are either punted or log off. By the time anyone can generally even react. They are already switching to another account to repeat the process. At best, you would simply be ejecting players who have already logged. Preventing any return. Accounts that might of got 2 or 3 uses would be reduced to 1 use. The impact would be minimal.
To have any effect you would need to catch them before they start spamming. And that would be a seriously impressive trick, if it could be done.

What you should do maybe is when people report gold spammers, is IPban. Not just a name or account but the whole IP
for 24 hours
If they spoof their IP with a proxy you would see the IP proxy and BAN that for 24h..so they cant use that proxy anymore or their own IP (for x amount of time whatis appropiate

IP bans don't work. Neither would banning an entire region.

Sony Online Entertainment needs to teach PWE how to do spam filters correctly.
Ever since they put in their filter with EQ II (don't know if they use for other games), you never heard from a spammer again.
It filters even the "workarounds" that the spammers here have no problem using (V V V etc).

Doesn't work, i played DCuo less than a week and it had *a* gold seller from the same site that spam here. It had only one seller.. so lame... every day the same seller was spamming on pc server. I decided then to delete dcuo...
Turbine can handle gold sellers, but the issue is the money cap, we have an absurd amount of max AD/gold, the same issue destroyed RS economy, since we can hoard thousands of dollars worth on virtual money the sellers will never stop trying to get customers to their site.
