I have several questions, I don't RP but I'm curious to see other people doing it. I want to see if it's fun, can I go and just watch?

Sounds a little creepy when someone says they just want to watch. lol

I suppose spectators are welcome as well. Don't be surprised if someone tries to talk to you however.

haha sorry if it sounds creepy, but I've never RP'ed before and I would like to see others do it first to have an idea of what to do. That's all XD

Hi. I saw you guys do the RP event in Trade of Blades and I must say I'm pretty interested. Some of my guildies are also interested in the same thing and maybe I could learn the ropes from spectating or participating. If you guys have room for a newbie, maybe I can join you using Lorne Fellbane, a Wood Elf TR clad in white and gold. Is there anything I need to prepare if by any chance I can participate?

You'll likely catch on to it pretty quick, as you most likely did role-play when you were young, but didn't know it was called that back then. If you ever pretended you were one of your favourite fictional characters, an animal, or anything other than who and what you were, you were role-playing. If you were doing it along with others, it was a free-form role-playing game.

Basically, you just take on a character (role), and then speak and act as you think that character would in whatever situation you happen to be in. To do that online, when you are role-playing with others, since the animations of the models are pretty limited in comparison to all the things a person could normally do, a lot of the actions of characters are done with emotes so they can be customized. If I recall right, in this game that takes the form of:

/e you type whatever your character is doing here

Anything your character says is simply typed out as normally.

If the player, rather than the character, must say something the it is usually enclosed in double brackets, so everyone involved can distinguish it from words spoken in character, like so:

((what the player says goes here))

Those are the bare bone basics as to how role-play is done online.

Before all that, though, the player has to develop their character. This is pretty much the same thing as a writer would do when making a character for a work of fiction, detailing such things as his mannerisms, background, like and dislikes, quirks and so forth. This acts as a blueprint for how you act when you are pretending to be that character.

It may sound complex, but it is really quite easy, and quite natural, as is evidenced by children doing much of this spontaneously on their own when they play let's pretend, very early on in their lives.

Anyway, I hope you can make it out to their event, and that you find RP interesting. It you do think it may be fun, I hope you give a go. It can really transform mundane game experiences into something much more involving and enjoyable.

Sure. This week will be more of a how to on picking a good tavern/inn during ones adventures. And we'll probably end up doing a "tales and ales" sort of thing.

PM @Cymerian or poke me in the NWRP channel for the instance number.

^ This. Role Playing is just pretend for grown ups. I'm always amazed at how people think it's hard to make stuff up....

That's quite alright. It might be a good way to practice, so hooray for duality of purpose!

Ok....hopefully someone sees this in time...do to the (idiotic IMHO) problem of instances only allowing 20 ppl outside of PE. We have moved to instance 4 of the Driftwood Inn.

I apologize in advance for anyone that didn't/couldn't make it because of this unknown technical problem caused by the game's limitations.

We do have weekly RP sessions and you can always contact me @Cymerian in game everyday.
