Gear Scores drops during dungeon and skirmish runs

Does anyone know why my score would drop during dungeon/skirmish runs. I started a skirmish with 4500 gs and during the skirmish it dropped to 1600 -- i repaired etc. but that didn't change anything.

    Try removing a piece or two of your armor and putting it back on.
