The Cryptic Game Out of Chat system anyone know the prerecs for NWO?

As most people may have found out in game NWO shares a chat system with Champions online and Star Trek online there are several multigame channels and guild in Neverwinter. This system is also a free source of advertising for the other Cryptic games.

On STO and CO you can set up Pidgin or another XMPP/Jabber client to access your friend list and with some programs even your guild and global channels. However on STO/CO you need to be paying the monthly option
to access this feature. though it seems if you have gold or lifetime on One game you get access to all 3 game chats

Due to a lot of people asking for my help I was setting up instructions on the wiki for setting up out of game chat and was informed people who do not have gold on CO or STO would get a username/password error. I not only have gold on CO I also have both hero of the north AND fae-wild packs.

SO my question is this:
Is anyone that does NOT have gold on STO/CO able to access the Out of Game chat feature?
Do people with a Pack get access if so which packs will allow access?
If this is an unintended side effect to the NWO/CO/STO shared chat is there any plans to either drop the subscription fee or give access to people who purchase items for NWO, such as fae-wild, starter, or founders packs.

This is a really nice feature and unless NWO is planning on making an ARC or NW phone app that combines gateway and chat (like the armory in wow) Offering it free to everyone is really a unique feature for a mmo company as people will remain loyal to a game if they can talk to their friends. and if the friends can still access the chat even when they have to be away from the game it may avoid the feelings of population dips, as well as bring people back to the game when they hear about their friends getting some new race/class/pet or enjoying a new event or feature.

    feel free to reply even if you don't know anything about the issue
    my hopes is that in addition to finding out if buying faewild
    or hero of the north ir guardian pack qualifies you to use out of game chat.

    maybe if there is a lot of intrest in chatting from remote the feature
    wont requre gold access in co/sto or whatever it requires in nw.
    or maybe they might give us a phone app for NW or combine cryptic chat
    into gateway or maybe arc/core,

    or even make an official app a lot of the bigger mmos seem to be doing the app thing.
    due to it can be a good advertisment source.

    Dunno about the issue but can try it later when I have a computer if you still need.

    I think using jabber is way better than making an app for it, don't think they should be splitting attention with an unnecessary phone app right now. They have a bad track record for bugs.

    I'd love to be able to chat with my Neverwinter friends when I can't get on.

    I know if you DONT play CO/STO and have not bought anything that you get a user error.
    I know if you have a gold account on CO or STO it works for all 3 games.
    What I NEED to know is if a hero of the north, guardian, or knight of fae who has never used CO/sto can use the chat, and if a gold member drops gold after they buy a pack if it still works.

    Id much prefer they just make jabber available to Neverwinter people.
    Free would be the best way for all since it would be a good selling point for all 3 games and a nice perk for cross gaming, however even if they go the route that you have to buy a faewild/hotn/guardian pack, It would be a very nice perk and much easier than telling people they have to sub to another game,

    I am just afraid they are trying to phase out jabber for a reason. and am hoping I can find out what the plans are so I can tell my friends who cant use the jabber anymore because they moved here from CO/STO and let their sub drop or even worse the people who came here from WOW or TOR and have no interest in the other games.

    This is why I suggested the app and gateway mods. I don't think it will be to splitting attention as it would probably be worked on by gateway team. or they might pull in some people from STO. they seem to have a "Team" for every type of project at PWE. a balance team, a new content team, a exploit/bug team. pet/fashion team at least that is what is being implied during the q&A and live streaming events.

    Oh, can't help you then, I don't even know anyone who's admitted to me that they'd spent that much money on this game.

    jabber is definitely the easiest way to go especially if they already have it set up. Plausible to add to Gateway, but it seems like they're so understaffed, where will they have the people to make an app? Unless they make a browser wrapper but in that case, they might as well not make the app.

    Out-of-game chat is something I've really wanted in this and other games, but doesn't look like it's something anyone else cares about, seeing as this thread is just us :(

    Well I was hoping one of the new unicorn riders would see the thread and give it a go.

    And I agree I've had the out of game chat set up on pidgin(laptop) and IM+ for Phone
    I've also set up various friends and I added the instructions on the NWO Wiki
    I put a warning you may need gold on co/sto because people were getting username errors.
    It would be nice to know for sure what works so I can add that to wiki.

    Id test this myself since I do have HOTN but I have a gold account on CO,
    we got it on a discount and if we drop it we lose the Discount. We really enjoy CO,
    We go there a lot for its unique events and player run Costume Contests.

    I have a few friends on both CO and NWO that use out of game chat
    that is how I know if you drop gold you lose out of game chat access.
    Sadly the person who dropped gold has not bought anything in NWO.
    though I suspect if it would get them the out of game chat they would
    be tempted to get faewild.

    Im not to sure about them being understaffed as much as they have a lot
    of "teams" on a lot of projects. And they have hired a lot of new staff latly
    So id imagine there is a lot of training going on. I think the one area that
    is understaffed is Customer Service. But that is probably due to pwe being
    rather spoiled by CO and STO communities.

    But I don't want to get off topic to much while it might get the thread attention it is not
    worth the cost of turning this into something else,

    Hello!

    So I've never played STO/CO however I have bought HOTN and KOTF packs. I use Pidgin and followed the Out of Game Chat directions listed on Neverwinter Gamepedia. However Pidgin always fails with the message Not Authorized.

    Note I started playing the game AFTER ARC was released so my login is my email address. Though obviously in game I add friends as characterName@handle

    The gamepedia write up is great but I wasn't clear for Username and domain since I don't have the Neverwinter launcher so much as ARC.

    Is username my @handle part (without the @)? If so does domain just remain as crypticspace.com ? Pidgin won't let me put in email_address@crypticspace.com it seems to have issues with two @ signs.

    thanks!

    Greetings.

    I have spent a few hours attempting to connect to Neverwinter chat using Pidgin but continue to receive the response "Not Authorized".

    Money does not seem to be a factor. I purchased the $60 Founder pack as well as a number of items from the Zen store (yes, I am a unicorn rider! :D ), so I am a player that has spent money on the game. The spending of the money is not the issue preventing authentication. As to CO and STO, I have not spent money on either of those, although I did play STO for a week or two while waiting for Neverwinter to become available.

    I have followed the instructions on the Wiki referenced at the start of this thread. I do seem to be making contact with the server at CrypticSpace.com, as the server responses vary based upon various configuration settings.

    My user name is my email address, so contains the "@ symbol. In another thread, it was observed that passing that special character results in a misinterpretation of the authentication string. The solution is to substitute /40" (not including the quotes -- this is the ANSI Hex code for the @ symbol) in the form "emailuser\40email.com. I do not know if any other field in XMPP configuration is subject to this problem with special characters. Note that I do have special characters in my password. I have tried substituting Hex codes for those special characters to no avail. Another approach I tried was to substitute the string that Cryptic seems to use internally as my unique identifier; this can be viewed by logging out of the game -- the string in the username field should be in the form "#4#3132669950533290 rather than in email address format. That string did not authenticate either (nor did it when I substituted Hex codes for the "#" symbols).

    It seems to me that it would be a useful feature to communicate with guild-mates and friends from outside the game. I would love to hear if anyone has been able to successfully connect to Neverwinter in-game chat using an XMPP client.

    From what I have been able to get from people since I made this thread.

    Noone with an @ in their username has been able to connect to out of game chat.
    but most of the people ive talked to that have a @ in their username have had STO/CO
    I will defiantly have them try the hex trick though.

    One person who had bought the 60$ founders pack claims to be able to connect but they do not have an @ sign.
    no one I know with fae-wild or hero of the north is able to unless they also have CO/STO
    but most the people I know who would qualify have the @ issue also.

    most everyone else I know has CO/STO and a non @ username. what we need is conformation from people who ARE able to connect that also have either a @ in username OR no co/STO gold account so figure out how they are doing it.

    Also you should defiantly add the information about the /40 to the wiki if you can confirm that it works for someone

    So I've tried a few things including the "/40" and "\40" without quotes as well as tried my @handle without the @ sign.

    Here are the results:

    Pidgin Username = @handle [without @]
    Pidgin Domain = CrypticSpace.com
    Result = Not Authorized

    Pidgin Username = @handle/40email.com [without that first @, this is effectively my email address I use to log into Arc but trying to escape the @ sign with a /40]
    Domain = CrypticSpace.com
    Result = Invalid XMPP ID. Username portion must be set.

    Pidgin Username = @handle\40email.com [without that first @, this is effectively my email address I use to log into Arc but trying to escape the @ sign with a \40]
    Domain = CrypticSpace.com
    Result = Not Authorized

    Pidgin Username = 48dk3;dsakd;k [just wanted to test a border case that is nonsense to see if the Not Authorized meant at least the user name was correct]
    Domain = CrypticSpace.com
    Result = Not Authorized

    So, not sure what to do at this point. I put in a ticket but there wasn't a lot of assistance, which I guess is fair if it is an unadvertised feature.

    Sadly it is looking like you have to have a CO/STO gold or lifetime account to use out of game chat.
    Keep in mid this was a feature for GOLD members of PWE games and when it was made no one had
    really considered they would share a server with a game that did not have a gold option.

    so unless someone comes forward who CAN access out of game chat who DOESNT play STO/CO
    we just have to assume it is just an exclusive feature for people who play CO/STO on gold
