Is ARC mandatory?

Hi all,

I just came back and decided to reinstall the game to check out the upcoming new model. However, as I found, the "download game" page doesn't let you get the game unless you install ARC (i.e. some silly useless piece of software trying to be Steam, which I'll probably never use for anything other than NW), and I'd rather not if possible.

So my question is, is there still an option to install the game w/o ARC?

    I Downloaded ARC but I never use it to log on with. I just check it occasionally in case they give me any presents.

    Interesting; can you delete it after the game installs?

    Yes, as discussed in various threads over the last few days. Search is your friend.

    Well, I don't read the forum in place of my morning papers :) And trying to search for something on a big forum with "arc" as a keyword would be quite a waste of time, yeah.

    Why they wouldn't just offer an alternative direct download is beyond me...

    With a name like Aus, I'm guessing you're Australian (me too). You've probably heard of the Aussie ISP Internode, well they run a site called games.on.net, and it still has the old Neverwinter client available as a download.

    This client doesn't include arc. But it doesn't include the latest patches either, so if you install it you'll have quite a bit of patch downloading to do. But at least you'll be free of arc.
