Less then a week away from launch and still no word on the companion upgrade prices being reduced.
Looks like it will be another great idea Cryptic had that will fail miserably in implementation, as of right now the upgrades are not worth it. Especially when upgrading from White to Purple will cost you more then a Purple pet on the Z market (using Zen to AD conversions), but I have a feeling that was their plan all along, they are far more interested in getting our cash directly then doing something FOR the players.
White to Green - 300,000 AD
Green to Blue - 500,000 AD
Blue to Purple - 750,000 AD
Full White to Purple Upgrade total - 1,550,000 AD
So on average if your doing Zen to AD exchange to pay for the upgrade (which most casual players will have to do to afford it, I certainly would if I was upgrading) it will cost about 4500 zen. Most expensive purple pet in Z Market (The Badger) 3500 Zen - This to me is a problem, and has been mentioned on the preview forums, yet nothing seems to be being done about it.
Shady, if you ask me....
I like NW a lot, but that New Car Smell can only carry it so far with at least 2 other HUGE games on the Horizon to challenge it, stuff like this will not add to the longevity.
if i understand correctly, these prices are to change. all AD service type costs are going down by an average of 10%. that being said, i don't think 10% is really enough of a reduction considering the existing costs.
Don't think too hard on it. It's just shady business disguised like a manageable upgrade plan. After all, you get to space out your pet in smaller easier to handle payments, like installments. The higher cost is to offset the convenience this offers, because they can't get everyone's cash up front it has to cost more. That's business, you are financing a purple pet by going through three upgrades. It's just more greed.

This is one reason why, IMO, we haven't seen more useful pets added to the Zen store - most are of the less useful "striker" category, instead of more defender and healer companions. If they leave the most directly useful companions, like the cleric, white only, then some people will pay that just to increase her survivability in the end game...

Data tends to suggest that even after upgrading, the survivability of non-augment companions is negligible. The increase in slots/stats isn't proving to be any help, at all. The R30 passives might be interesting, but I don't think they're worth it (right now especially) given the cost.
I think they could probably drop the prices another 25% (off the total, deflected to the front end) and still be fine. Right now, it's not worth it.

Don't think the upgrades are covered in that announcement, just the Wondrous bazaar pets.

AD Price Adjustments
We are also lowering the AD cost of several services and items in the game! It isn’t in the Preview build yet but in general we’re looking to reduce the fees for Enchantment and Runestone unslotting, Feat Respecs, Item Transmutation, Wondrous Bazaar Companions, and Wondrous Bazaar level 60 Blue Gear by around 10% on average. Check out the patch notes when it hits for more details if you’re interested.
Don't worry Non-augment pets will still be useless in end game dungeons and yes the quality upgrade will not fix companion ai, just give them a little more stats and a new skill. It's basically pointless to upgrade and I can't wait to see all the rage post about this because I know people will be dumb enough to do this.

Reducing to 11% of the initial suggested price for companion upgrades, unbinding & transmuting is about right, reducing by 11% is a joke!
The way you make people buy goods or services is by pricing them where the market will bear the cost, at present the vast majority of AD sinks are way to much above that, so there are no sinks!

Saw the new prices in the Bazaar, Still WAY overpriced. I really hope there is enough rage when these upgrade prices go live to actually make the DEVS listen for one.
