Considering a return...Am I still a horrid clone?

Heya. Just wondering if there's been any additions to diversity in armor appearance. Control Wizards especially will know of what I speak. After 40 levels of blue glam-rock robes and helmets/hoods that make the 'hide helm' toggle a godsend, I'm hoping that the game has been fleshed out since I played it last.

Opinions?

Plenty of dyes. You can also transmute armor. Level 60 offers a few options.

Can't say as there's much more diversity in appearance, sorry. :(
Dyes do seem to be a bit more plentiful now that Alchemy can make them though.
And they've handed out a few 'meant to be transmuted'/fashion items, but not much.

Certainly seems like an area they need to spend some effort in.

Too bad, but I appreciate the answers. Guess I'll look elsewhere to pass the time before FF14.

    Thanks again.

Alas, many MMO usually falls under the "clone look" due to gear base. Some have allow to have "costume" slot where you can have a specific look but still a "clone" in terms what is available to you.

The only exception were hero games like City of Heroes. You design your own look and get to keep it. Sure you still have a "clone" look in terms of costume, but the choices are so large that you can use anything for your "look"

the problem is when a game is not design like that, it can cause server issue. The clone look allows the system to parse info faster and send it to the user (that is why game/simulation like 2nd life where EVERYTHING is unique can take quite a bit to load and can't really be optimized)

Yep, I feel ya man. Styles is everything. The game could have fun combat and powers, lush environments and interesting player created content but if they don't have the perfect hooded cloak I want I am looking elsewhere. I hear Maple Story is awesome!

I think the main problem with NW is that they "coded" each outfit to specific class. This is not usually "normal" for D&D. The armor usually categorize by light, medium, heavy base and whatever class you choose, you can wear that armor.

I don't remember any 4th ed limiting armor to a specific class (exception would be specific armor/unique that is for specific class like Robe of wizardry but a tunic can be worn by anyone) it is interesting that a chain mail for DC can't be worn by GWF.

I think NW coded themselves into a corner which prevent mix and match costume. LoTRO did a gear job with a costume pane where it will display what you want to show or default costume.

What I think is the most frustrating is the Armor Enchantment animations. People spend all this time and AD getting the gear, pieces and look they want, and then they add an enchant, and it completely ruins it. So frustrating.

If you are still not happy with the number of dyes and variety which have been added to the game in the last few months, The Fury of the Feywild promises to add a lot to armor and weapon variety and will be available on the live shard August 22. :D

Hardly relative to the topic at hand but no. I am a volunteer who is simply a huge fan of Forgotten Realms, Dungeons and Dragons and truly enjoys the game.

I am honestly not upset with the selections now.
I think there needs to be some more dye options and getting more armor and weapon options will be great but I personally haven't had a hard time varying my appearance once I reached level 60.

However I would like to get something started where item images are put onto the Official Wiki. There are a lot of really cool looking items in the game but sadly the game does a horrible job at letting players preview the appearance! :(

The 1-59 armors are kinda bland. Blue and purple pieces have unique looks. Dye is your best route for a more unique look, however. I would like to see a more affordable way for sub-60 players to alter their appearances. Because of how quickly you change gear while leveling up, things like dye or transmutation are kinda pointless.

Though that is true. This can be easily remedied, as they are coded to class, but can still be worn on the model. So the cure would be to allow no restrictions on transmutation.
having the ability to mix and match armor using transmutation rather than actually equiping the armor. I see no reason what so ever to have a restriction on this.

And in addition making it so the cost is drastically lower. ( I would say half of what it is now at least). And you have a formula to freely create the look of the character you want, and a good AD sink if you want to do this at lower level, and this would require you to choose to transmute existing transmuted armor to new ones you acquire.

There are dozens of armor skins you can use to transmute your gear. It's been here since day 1 but most people didn't know the feature was here and what it was doing.

It's prohibitively expensive to transmute gear. We're talking over 60,000 ADs at level 60 for 1 piece.

It's also 2-3 days of farming 2h a day at most. So, it's not that expensive to me. There aren't many ADs sinks in game, and you don't use that feature every day. So the sinks have to be significant.

i wouldn't be holding my breath, eq2 is like 10 years old or what not now, and the robes and armor for the most part still looks simular to the first conent map armor lol.

worse is there mage robes, they look so ugly.

EQ2 will only be 9 years old this coming November. It released 19 days before WoW (at least in the US) in November 2004.

Now, there is no reason at all that you can't make a perfectly NICE clone!
I mean, only one of MY clones can be described as horrid, and that was on purpose.

    Sorry.
    Couldn't resist.
But just keep looking for items with unique, odd-sounding names. Many of them have unusual graphics, even the Greens. I've found hammers and maces for GF's, axes and short-swords for TR's, and clubs and axes for GWF's. They are there, you just need to look for them. Unfortunately, there is no preview section, so if you try an item on, you can't sell it afterwards. And factor in the overly high cost of changing one's gears' appearance, you get a scenario where only the upper 10% or so bothers with unique looks.
