No and most likely never. With the release of Module 1, you use Astral Diamonds to upgrade companions.
    Definitely not an Arc User.

You sure about that? Won't you be using AD to buy the tomes for upgrading? Unless they're adding some new mechanics? (which, why would they, since the mechanics already exist for mounts)

It is already in use on Mimic. the Dev's might change their minds before the 22nd, but it currently seems unlikely.
    Definitely not an Arc User.

On preview server, on the companions page you get a button to upgrade it with AD. So yes, he/she is sure.

Well, that's interesting. And kind of a "6 of 1" scenario. Spend AD to buy tome to upgrade OR spend AD to upgrade. Same difference, no?

Next update but is very, very expensive and incredibly stupid.

The difference is that if the tome was an item that wasn't bound, you could trade them for other items/characters/gold, whereas if they use ADs only, they don't become a tradable commodity.

Right, unless, as you say, it were bound. I expect that they did not want them to be tradeable, and so therefore streamlined it from buying a bound tome that you activate to simply activating it from an interface.

Not if the tomes don't exist, no.
