They both have their uses - it's worth switching them out based on the fight/group make-up. And you don't have to use either of them if you don't want to

Bastion of Health all day.
I actually used to use Forgemaster's a lot, and I still do on some boss fights (like SPC), but I find a divine Bastion of Health much more effective for the entire party.
Healing Word is too slow to recover and only heals 1 target.
BoH in guild runs, when I know my group doesnt suck or run around aimlessly. They know to stick close to my circles so I can heal more people and give more Linked Spirit with BoH. On the rare occasion that I pug and notice that people are spread out, or we decide to do a boss with a tank or someone kiting adds (Frozen Heart), I might slot Word.
both HW and bastion need serious buffs, Hw needs to scale a bit with level maybe, but which one depends on the team and the cleric if you got a lot of rogues and gwfs who cant stay still for the BoH casting time bastion is useless, however if you got a bunch of people standing in a tight clump HW is hard to manage, I tend to have both if I see a trend of clumpyness I pull out the one that works for that,

But if I had to pick one: even though I hate it, healing word.
Well I wouldn't say I totally hate HW but +1
I would - so much so, I would almost pick Bastion!
I still hate bastion of health. :x
