Cave Problems

I'm trying to build a cave from scratch, but I am having some issues. The main one is that the cave rooms do not have a floor: the character can easily misstep and fall into a bottomless pit or a black area of the zone. How can I avoid this? Do I have to add rocks and build my own base floor?

Seconds: This is a sort of underwanter cave, so I want to add water ppols and lakes to the cave. But most of the time the water ponds appear in mid-air and such. Is there any possiblity to have them appear at a floor level?

Third: I am trying to combine crypt and cave rooms, but some of the crypt entrances do not fit and its just visually ugly. How can I avoid this?

Thanks for your patience! I am willing to review or play any of your foundries as well, so feel free to spam your foundry directions in here ^^

I've only built one cave room with a pool of water in the center, so not an expert at all. But, yes i added large flat rocks to the gaps to prevent anyone from falling through, and also added large rocks/boulders to the walls for visual effects as well as to fill in odd gaps. You will have to adjust the Y axis for the water to appear correctly. Set Y to relate to Zero Altitude, and adjust it to look the way you want. That will probably be easier to do from the 3D editor. No experience with the crypt rooms, so not sure how to help there.

    My answers =D

    1) you'll have to use rocks. Cave Rocks are good but expensive. My advice is to play around and place bunches of rocks to see which ones you like. USe the 3D editor but remember if you select an object in 3D edit you can't walk on it amymore, you just fall through.

    2) Place water in 2D edit then adjust it in 3D edit is what I do.

    3) Combining rooms can be a trick. Move both sets of rooms around to try and fit it, then use rocks to fill in the gaps. You may have to use different rooms or hallways to get it to work as well. It looks ugly, but it's up to you to pretty it up =o

General advice is to take the time to learn the editor and it's nuances - it behaves differently than some editors in many ways (lights still don't make perfect sense to me)

As for posting a Foundry, I'll ask for people to play my Foundry in about a month =o

The Cliff Rock Chasm, Rock Large Chasm, Skyhold Rock Cliff, and the Rock Cliff series are usually good ones to use. They all cost only 1 asset and some are very well sized. I wonder if the game renders nonviewable details such as large rock details below the ground.

Likewise. It's especially difficult to do transitions from full sunlight to deep shadow. That darn bloom follows ya everywhere! ;-)

Right click the room in layout mode and choose auto populate. That should give you a decent start with rock walls and platforms covering holes and gaps. From there, move them around or add more. Caves are kind of a pain to work with but the payoff can be worth it.

When you set your water correctly you may find you don't have the problem with falling (I have never done it with water but if it works the same as lava then it should be good). To set the water you can change the Y axis in 2d edit. start with 0 and work from there. Crypts don't fit that well with caves in my opinion but you can blend them using other object such as rocks. Or you could even build the crypts into a large cave using building pieces. If you are still having trouble with falling after adding the water you can add invisible walls to stop people falling. I warn it is a pain to do so.

Feel free to play any of my quests. They are all top notch ;) Hope that helps.
