Nightmare Lockbox-Low Level Character Question

I just had a quick question about the Nightmare Lockbox? I am level 13 and received one the other day...I know I cannot use a mount until level 20 and don't get a companion normally until level 16. A very silly question but, if I open the box now with a key, will the mount and companion that were in it simply remain unavailable until I hit the required level, and then become usable? I wasn't certain if I should wait to open it until level 20, for example..?

I'd appreciate any advice anyone could give, and thank you in advance :)

If you have a mount before level 20 you won't be able to equip it and use it. So it will just take up inventory space until 20. Companions however are usable as soon as you leave the tutorial at level 4. So if you got a pheora you would be able to use it right now.

Thank you, dardove! That is exactly what I needed to know :) In that case I think I will open the box for the phoera, and collect the mount when I've leveled properly. Much appreciated!

You do know the boxes are a random gamble right?
There is no guarantee what you will get.

That is ofc if your lucky enough to get either the mount or companion, they are a very low drop rate, just fyi i have known people open 100's of boxes and never seen a mount yet, GOOD LUCK :)

Also note that with store bought mounts apply to every character whilst the lockbox one is only for one. Also it'll likely be cheaper on the AH when trading zen for AD.

Yes, that is a good point. I'd just been searching the forum and that is what I had read. Maybe those items won't appear after all, but I think I will try and open the lockbox to see what I get. I just wasn't sure when I posted originally if I ought to wait until level 20, etc., to do so :) Thanks for the reminder!

Thank you, bowdidly! I guess I'll open the box up and see what appears...the chances may not be good but at least it will be some things I didn't have before :)

That's a good point, too :) I can always buy mounts, etc., no matter what that would be just as good; and in some ways much better, as you mentioned.

Yah what that guy said. Go for the sure thing on the AH. It's going to be cheaper there, unless by some stroke of the gods; you get the companion on you're 2nd box. Then after you've saved all the money by buying directly off AH, do what youd like :) and gamble away (PS I do not condone gambling)
