Best weapon enchantment for cleric?

Took a break for a while, started playing around again. I know Vorpal used to be the standard for weapon enchants. Anything changed? Is Holy Avenger viable and/or useful enough to equip? None of the others seem to be worth considering.

Holy Avenger's damage resistance activates every 60 seconds, so it pales in comparison with Vorpal. But then again, I don't know this for sure since I'm newbie and still few levels away from 60.

But I absolutely hate cookie-cutter builds and the need to use certain enchants or armour just to be effective. I also wonder if there is any other options available when it comes to enchants. For example, rogues who utilize "permastealth build" rely on intelligence and recovery, and there's this frost enchant which cuts the recovery by 15% and lasts 4 sec/every 20 seconds. It does sounds a bit silly to try to counter only one type of enemy, but then again, currently and most likely after patch rogues will be the number one nemesis for every cleric in PvP, so why not.

There are only 3 choices of weapon enchants for Clerics: Vorpal, Holy Avenger, and Plague Fire.

Vorpal is good for crit Clerics that want bigger heals and/or damage. In my opinion, it's the best weapon enchant for Clerics. Holy Avenger's proc rate just isn't good enough to make it worth having over Vorpal. 5 second defense buff every 60 seconds just isn't worth it. Plague Fire became viable when they fixed Cleric Encounters proc'ing Plague Fire's effects on their own teammates. It's a good way to be a debuffing machine, especially when combined with High Prophet 4 piece set bonus.

It's really up to your own budget and your Cleric's build / playstyle. I personally rank Vorpal as the best, Plague Fire 2nd best, Holy Avenger 3rd.

Vorpal all the way - highest synergy with feats, Divinity, healing, dps and pvp. Gives you the most flexibility in most contexts and ranking it up really makes a big difference. Scales best with gearing and content.

Holy Avenger - cooldown too high for PvE and its utility is low because the proc cannot be controlled. Has more benefit in pvp due to front-loaded burst damage from any encounter with relatively large gaps between fights and you can choose better when to attack. In that context has better synergy with Negation armor enchant than Soulforged where it would be wasted during immunity periods.

Plague Fire - not worth it except at highest rank. Specific to only two contexts: boss pve and pvp as dps cleric. It is like slotting Armor Penetration except it benefits the group too if they have minimal Arp. Useless on trash since easy for all classes to meet Resistance Ignored soft caps for trash via Arp or feats. Scales badly with group gearing.

So, unless I was interested in getting a Perfect Negation, I wouldn't go Holy Avenger and Greater Plague Fire is inferior to Greater Vorpal or higher under any context in endgame.

As an aside, Clerics have more viable flexibility with Armor enchants than Weapon enchants. Three that come to mind: Soulforged, Negation, Briartwine.

Not sure how good the perfect ice wep enchant is, but this one in theory should lower the dmg against you aswell as it prevents people from using encounters on you.

are we talking about cost being in a vacuum here?

I agree with the above poster that 1) vorpal 2) plague 3) avenger. However as i am sure everyone knows that vorpal is crazy expensive as the lesser is not worth it, same for plague.

At the end of the day you can pay out the nose or save up forever for 1 or 2. In between waiting for that you can spend pennies and pick up an avenger chant or something else.

I plan on having vorpal, but until then im rocking a holy avenger.

Does anyone have thoughts about the best/cheapest interim solution until a good vorpal?
