Is there a way if you have an encounter group that has 3 members but you only want 1 of the 3 to actually spawn that you can get rid of the other 2?
Is there any other General/Boss level encounters besides the Ogre?
I know others are all over the game like the big devils in helms, the mindflayer giant things, tons of different Generals, not to mention all the bosses. It Kind of sucks we only get the Ogre from that level of encounter. He is a useful boss but only to a degree...his lack or ranged disturbs me....
While I am here, any way to add the regular kind of Dragons to the encounter group or as NPC, I have re skinned the ogre as the pet dragon at max size for encounters and it just isn't working......
I'd like to know the same thing. I hate being forced to use groups of monsters!
If you have an indoor map, I believe you can create a secret room off to the side somewhere, where you can put any unwanted monsters. The only problem I see with that is, the encounter may never reach 'complete' stage because you haven't killed all the monsters in the encounter. So you wouldn't be able to use the encounter as an objective.
For outdoor maps, I try to split the groups up, by moving each one around on the map, so that you don't have to fight the whole group at once.
Anyway, here's a list of some single monster encounters:
Drow Melee Easy 1 = 1 Drow Assassin (normal weak encounter)
Orc Melee Standard = Ogre (very strong melee encounter)
Orc Ranged Standard 2 = Eye of Gruumsh (strong caster encounter)
Rebel Melee Standard = Enforcer (strong melee encounter)
Rebel Ranged Standard = Hexer (strong caster encounter)
Spider Melee Standard = Tomb Spider
Undead Melee Hard = Battle Wight Commander (very strong melee encounter)
Undead Melee Standard 1 = Battle Wight (strong melee encounter)
Undead Melee Standard 4 = Hulk (strong melee encounter)
Undead Ranged Standard 1 = Deathlock Wight (strong caster encounter)
Foulspawn Melee Easy 1 = Berserker (strong melee encounter)
Foulspawn Melee Standard 3 = Red Hulk (very strong melee encounter)
Gnoll Melee Standard 1 = 2 Deathpledged Gnolls (strong melee encounter) Although there are 2 of these, I've included them because they're easy to split up.
List of hard encounters used for bosses:
Ashmadai Shocktroop Devil
Abolethic Plaguechanged Maw
Fire Magma Brute
Foulspawn Hulk
Mindflayer Thoon Hulk
Orc Savage Ogre
Hiding them in a room and not making the encounter a "kill monsters" part of story might be suitable? Not sure if it's possible, but I wonder if you can delete individual monsters from an encounter and leave the other part of the group there? I don't think you can but maybe you can?
No, you can't delete individual monsters from an encounter. Gods I wish you could! I would love to be able to mix and match my own encounter groups.

Thanks that info is a great help. Hopefully they will add more stuff we can use as they go - I still want my full sized dragon as an encounter and an npc!
Hiding them in a seperate "room" (typically below terrain level) is doable, except, as mentioned, Encounter Complete will never occur so you can't use it as an objective.
However, if you're seperate "room" is a "cave" room, you can "drop" the extra creatures below the path onto a "deathplane" and that will allow Encounter Complete to work in Objectives. Only works on interior maps using cave rooms as far as I know.
For outdoor maps you can set up a "kill box" below terrain (Netherese platform and 4 invisi-walls that has hard-guard encounter in it) and drop extras in there -- takes a few seconds for the guards to kill the extras, but Encounter Complete will then work in Objectives.
Note that all spawns have to occur within 256' of the PC.

Now that's a clever idea! I never thought of that.
I did try an experiment with the friendly guard encounters. I just wanted a single mage companion to fight alongside me (but the mage encounter comes with three other guards). So I tried putting the other guards under the map (setting their Y axis to - something) but the whole encounter ended up under the map, including the mage. So I might try placing a building or something (with no exit) and putting them in there so they can't get to the PC.
As for boss encounters, I've just played a mission that used the big 'Foulspawn Melee Standard 3 = Red Hulk' encounter. Holy HAMSTER! That guy is incredibly tough, so if you're looking for a really hard encounter to use for a boss, that guy is probably what you want.

There's a very useful thread all about this here:http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?140071-Encounters-for-Dummies-%28and-everyone-else%29&highlight=dummies
The front page is mainly general details, but a couple of pages in there are lists of solo mobs and their abilities and what not.
Have fun
