So my son wants to pick up the medium black horse from the zen store, no big deal. My question though, since it's blue does he have to have rank II riding to use it? Or can he use it at rank I speed until he gets the training?

You ride at the mounts speed, the training manuals improve the mount, not the rider.

Oh I see....so I could take my green mount and get the training thing and it would turn into a blue mount?

So he's safe getting the mount from the zen store then, thanks!

Yes, you could...... BUT - do NOT do so. The training books are priced too high. If you take the same amount of AD that they would cost and exchange it for zen in the exchange, you can just buy a zen store mount. Which will apply to all of your characters, not just one of them.

(well, I know this works at the Tier 3 level. At tier 2, the prices may be closer. Still, it's a better idea to exchange for the zen and get a mount that all your characters can use.)

Personally, and if you can wait it out, save up as many ADs as you can and just use them toward a Zen-store mount. I did that and bought the rank 3 horse mount - it's a noticeable speed increase, and best of all, unlocks for all the characters on your account!
