I don't think the game is ready for a new class yet. For a couple reasons
First the core 5 classes are not quite finished yet. We have been waiting on "choice" for paragon paths since the game started. The 5 classes each need to have at least 3 paragon paths to choose from, and all new classes that come out must also fit this mold.
Second. Class balance is still off. CW's are too necissary in the game and GWF and to lesser extent GF and TR have taken a back seat in end game dungeons. Melee is just not comparable to range. Especially when ranged is insta killing 20+ mobs with one daily and one encounter power. Any new classes especially ranged classes have the potential to elimate the melee classes from party makeups.
Class balance needs to be at a level where players want to take one of each of the 5 main classes to all dungeons as the ideal party right now the party makeup is 2CW, 1 DC, 1TR, Plus 1GF/GWF. This group is considered the ideal party for most any dungeon. but CN which has been leaning towards 3 CW, 1DC, 1TR
Dungeons need to be reworked so all classes can shine in there role. CW's push needs to be nerfed, either by modifiying the CW or the dungeons that allow pushing. And GWF need a small buff to be a more valuable member in the party, in the area of threat, Aoe Crowd control, and/or party buff powers.
When class balance is handled then new classes can come in and be balanced against there respective counterpart class. Is Ranger going to be a Striker like TR. Will Warlock be a Controller like CW
I've been waiting for a while for this new class to come out, and getting pretty impatient. anyone got a date or idea on when it's coming out?
New class won't be coming for a long long while yet, but the new race (Drow) is going to be released soon, plus as "farfig1337" posted, the game simply is not ready for a new class.

All of those theories count for HAMSTER.
In the end you go with who you have, and don't spend too much time sorting out 'the best.'
Last night we rolled epic with all dps class with me as cleric and im specced more for pvp. The GWF wasn't any kinda tank. We just had enough dps and enough heals to make it through. Didn't feel like waiting for a GF in que.
Next time we went we had a GF and it was ALOT smoother I must say. Regardless it wasn't impossible. This to me sais that there is a good degree of class balance. When you can roll with a 'non-traditional' group and stil make it; there is balance.

In 'the summer' the Feywild will be released, which will have two new elf-races.
'60 days' after launch the 'vanilla drow' will be released (hate that name).
A 'ranged' class is being finished and will be released.... well... that's where the speculation begins, but my guess is it will not be too long after the Feywild.

Both rangers and warlocks are strikers.
