So in my quest,a player reaches a point where there is a "side mission" where he can choose to rescue an NPC if he can find the mission. The NPC reveals information about the plan of the enemy. So I want to know if I can make a side-mission storyline.Basically it would involve a player going to the Blacklake District,to stop some Foulspawns from recruiting the Nasher Rebels for the upcoming war.I was thinking of making two portals, the first leading to the normal place the player has to go to and the second, appearing only if the player has a certain item(a note possibly about the recruitment trial),and then the player can go there but I have to solve the mission objectives not showing.Any ideas?

For one, you cannot get portals to show up when you want them to, they are just always there. You can block them with objects or walls or such, but you can't make them appear or disappear at certain times.
You can add dialog to an NPC or object without it being an objective. You can also add a little bit of text to items. I've done a very simple example of this in my first quest, nothing as complex as what you're talking about, but it has two little side quests that aren't part of the objectives. So you can have an NPC tell the player about the side mission. But, you could only teleport them to a different part of the current map, as map transitions can only be done through objectives.
Thing is, while your side quest may give more role-playing type information, or hints, to the player, it can't actually change any outcome of the objectives.
I don't know if this makes any sense, it's hard to explain.
No, you can't do that the way you have it envisioned.
On the other hand, you can do it another way.
The major problem that you face here is that you want them to have to go on a side quest to another map/zone. That can't be done as a side quest.
BUT, that being said, you can cut off part of your map from the main quest objective, and make them open the door (or open up a portal to view) by speaking to your optional character.
So here's what you would do (two scenarios):
Create your portal, and have it hidden behind another object in a small enclosed area. Say inside a "shed" made out of walls (I don't know of any that have open doorways). When the person talks with the NPC, one of the walls goes away, and there's the portal. This portal takes you to another area of the map, unexplored by the main quest line.
Create a door instead if it's an inside area. Have the door show up and simply open up to the indoor area.
So yes, you can do the optional quest. No, you can't do it on another zone/map of its own. If you want it to take place in Blacklake, have the main quest take you there (but I warn you, using these kinds of pre-made official zones is bugged, anyway... so it may or may not work, regardless due to that).
