Unlocking the 100% Speed Buff crafting slot - Will this work?

Is this how this will work?

I have 4 green platesmiths. I can combine them into 1 blue platesmith. If I purchase 12 more green platesmiths, I can combine them into 3 more blue platesmiths. I will then have 4 blue platesmiths total.

I can then set those 4 platesmiths to the task of mass forging mithril plates. One as the main smith, and three as assets. Each has a +25% speed bonus, which will combine for a total of +100%.

I can then sell the blue platesmiths on the AH, and buy back three green platesmiths, ending up basically where I started.

Will this unlock the "Complete a task with at least a 100% speed bonus" crafting slot, as I predict? I apologize if this is a really basic question, but it's going to take every AD I have to pull this off, and I don't want to sink my funds into it and find out it doesn't work. =D

    Yes, it should work fine.

Edit: I did the same in Tailoring to get my speed slot unlocked.

Just make sure you do that for ALL your characters so they too can have that slot unlocked.

Good point. You can mail the assets to yourself by sending in-game mail with them attached to your own @handle, and pick them up on the next alt you want to unlock the slot on.

    • 1: Do it once - create the 4 workers (and the 4 tools for the Rank 3 slot version)
    • 2: mail the 4 worker results to yourself,
    • 3: repeat 2 until every toon has done it,
    • 4: mail them back when finished...

They are not character or account bound, so this will work

I have done the 4 Master Platesmiths on multiple toons, so yes, they will work for the speed bonus.

and as others have mentioned, mail those 4 workers to each character you have (along with 10 iron, 4 charcoal) so all your characters can open the speed slot.

Easier to get someone to lend you two heroes to do the rank 1 "feed the needy" leadership quest imo.

10 min down to 5 min with two heroes.

Good luck with that unless you are established in a guild. However, getting 4 Blue Platesmiths was only around 160K total on Dragon, and also works.
