I really liked this when I first saw it but then a question plagued my mind... Do you need unbound set items to craft the new reinforced set items?

    No.

You just need to be willing to use another set of gloves or go gloveless for upwards of a day and a half.

Other upgrades have worked just fine with bound gear. And it seems fine recognizing my gloves as a resource when I unequip them. I don't however have a profession slot free to attempt to start the task, but it should start normally if I did.

Crafting my gloves now 1 day 19 hours. Is it just gloves or do the pieces rotate out? Would be nice to reinforce everything. and no, my set is bound and gemmed and it started fine, not sure if the gem will be in it after though. Also I do not see a problem doing unbound pieces for guildies.

What stinks is you cant make them for others. Once made they are bound to you.

The gloves are the only thing that lists a reenforced version in the set list.

Rogue I play with will not shut up about having to go bare handed for a day.

I don't think they bind when crafted. I've seen a few reinforced swash bracers on the ah, unless people found a way to bypass the binding process.
