How to make a better Profession system

First off I want to say congratulations to PerfectWorld for creating a free MMORPG that is very very good. I really like the combat system even if the targeting can get annoying.

This thread will be devoted to players giving the developers ideas on how to make the profession system better.

1) The rate at which you level your professions is so much slower than the rate at which your character levels.
As a level 41 character I just reached level 10 Leadership (I did not exclusively do leadership so I guess it could potentially be higher) but there is no way I will be able to level my professions at the same rate as my character levels. Therefore max-level players will have to spend hours and hours leveling professions in order to get them high enough to craft things that they can actually use.

My suggestion would be to add a queue function where you can setup a schedule of professions up to 24 hours so that once a task is complete the next one in the queue will take its place.

You could also decrease the profession exp needed to level up the early levels of professions. I shouldn't be crafting 25 chain armor in order to level up a profession if I am only going to sell them.

You could couple the profession tasks with foundry campaigns to grant players more profession experience if they actually go do things (such as fight a rock elemental for mining ore, Actually protect a caravan for extra astral diamonds and/or experience)

2) The "Rare Tasks" that you can do are not actually rare. The time limit is not reduced, the rewards are generally not higher (See Leadership rare task for Extended Guard Duty)

3) It would be nice if you could Queue a series of tasks to be worked on instead of having to log into the gateway every 25-60 minutes

If you have anything you think they should add to tweak the professions or things they need to work on please post a comment below.

while i agree with your suggestions, i doubt the devs will change professions. They are an amazing ad/zen sink in the their current form. I mean you cant even complete some of the jobs without items from crafting packs. From a devs pov, why have a queue system (which i think is a great idea) when you could spend ad to insta-complete?

True. It is very unlikely that they will change it. But there are certain balance issues with it that they really should resolve.

For example: If you use the Gateway to work on professions you cannot retrieve an item if your inventory is full.

The money that they make from micro-transactions does not mean that the professions should be so much more difficult to level than your actual character.

While I understand most of your points, the reality is that they've built a system that benefits them commecially. They want you to have to spend money to improve your crafts. And they want you to have to log in often.

Overall, it's a decent system. My Guardian Fighter is level 36, and my platesmithing is at level 14. So far I've spent $15 on profession packs, and not received anything useful for platesmithing. But, I've sold most of the stuff out of the packs, made about 300K AD, and used that to buy some green platesmith guys and a ton of materials. Iron, Steel and Mithral are pretty cheap on the AH. This saves me having to do the arduous 10 minute gathering/forging, and leaves me free to check in every hour or so to pick up my shirts.

The queue sounds a lot like the current batch system. Batch crafting is about the best we could hope to get.
It's already a major convenience that we can craft from our mobile devices.
Of course, the whole point is to keep players actively interacting with the game in some fashion.

For the most, I don't need much as I level anyways, so I see no reason to try to match gear or pots as I level.
I can just use the drops while I level.
This is the first game where I still play during the endgame. Actually, first game where I have two maxed characters.
First game where I continue crafting once I'm maxed. I'm just crafting gear and dyes for alts.
And that's fairly easy to do.
First set is done when my alt is level 10. Next set is done when my alt is level 20. Even if my Lev 30 alt is wearing Lev 20 gear for the fashion statement, that's still fine. The crafted gear doesn't seem to be all that elite.
