Environmental Light Outside

Is there anyway to turn the super brightness off when you have an outside map?

Even at night with the sky turned off everything casts shadows.

A reasonable way to block it would work too. It seems depthfades do not block sun/starlight.

Heavy fog will block light. Heavy black fog will turn everything not directly around you black.

I have Heavy Fog, it doesn't block light, it just reduces the distance you can see. :(

Good question. I'm using an overcast backdrop, where the sky is dark and cloudy, but there is a horrible glare on the ground. :( I've tried fog, didn't help at all. The black depthfade did help (with the glare, don't know if it would help with shadows), but it's just a small square on a large map, so i'd have to cover the whole map with depthfades, otherwise you can see the square edges of it. I also tried adjusting my video settings to reduce the glare, but that never worked either.

If it works for your map, build it inside a room. I have used one of the large cave rooms for this. Use black fades, fog, etc.

Even at night with the sky turned off everything casts shadows.

If there is available light, objects will cast shadows. The only way to prevent that would be to have the ability to change the objects material properties (cast shadows on/off), which we can't do. You can make your environment very dark, though I don't recommend it. If you really want it to be dark, in your FX area, skyfade interior fog black. Also you can do it globally with a sky override in the backdrop.

It seems like the only way to accomplish what I'm trying to do will be to block out the invisible sun with objects. :(

Like ovaltine said, you need to use the Skyfade detail objects (not the map backdrop objects, and make sure you're searching for Skyfade, not Depthfade)

Without using the skyfade objects, even a fully enclosed box will be fairly-well lit in an exterior map.

Actually, even skyfade doesn't eliminate shadows or some lighting. I used very low light (night backdrop) + skyfade heavy black and it STILL leaves an area of light around you. You even cast shadows.

I ended up making a box out of chasm cliffs to shut out all shadow-casting light + low light + skyfade. And you still have a light patch around you (though that suits what I'm doing)

I thought you could stack skyfades...?

I don't think so? I know I've tried and it seems to just be an override (with placed skyfades -- put, say, heavy blue and then somewhere else place heavy black. Even if the ranges overlap, it'll just switch between whichever is closest)

But if someone has found otherwise, I'd love to hear about it.
