Having played the previous Cryptic games (CO and STO), and purchased lifetime on both of these previous games AND Hero of the North Founders pack (I guess that makes me a fanboi). The Zen Store for Neverwinter is the first Cryptic game that has me going..."Nah".
Prices are ok, but I feel the fact they are character only purchases (for the most part) has me thinking "not worth it". With CO and STO anything you buy is basically an account unlock (well STO you can't play both Klingon and Fed ships on the same toon). I like the ability to delete a toon and not worry about wasting money (yes, I do suffer from "alt-itis"). STO the ships are available to all my toons, CO the costume unlocks again available to all my toons. Neverwinter just seems a little too far on the stingy side to get me to bite.
Your thoughts, would purchases being on the account level (ie mounts and companions) tempt you to buy when normally you would not (ofc things like profession packs wouldn't work that way)?
Purchase on account level would be nice. I suspect it isn't offered for this game because there is no subscription mode for it, so cash shop sales are the sole source of revenue for the title.

Possible, as STO and CO "morphed" into FTP from a sub game with micro transactions. But these games are currently running in exactly the same way as Neverwinter (solely funded by Zen Store purchases). Don't get me wrong, I'll spend money but Neverwinter is the first time I've gone "nope" in a Cryptic game.

Sadly things like this are pretty routine for Perfect World, if not for Cryptic. They like making you buy stuff over and over for every character. I know if I saw a mount, for example, for $30 bucks in the cash shop (which there are) and it's character bound, I don't want it. It's not worth it to me. However, $30 for a great mount that all my characters, past, present, and future can use (like the Founder's packs give you)? I might spring for that. That's just me though. As it is, their cash shop isn't something I want to spend money on right now, it's just too expensive for what you get to me.

I know for a fact CO isn't solely funded by Zen store purchases because they sell subscriptions, which are desirable for that game as it opens up freeform characters for all your character slots. I haven't played STO, so I can't comment about that.

True dat (kinda forget when you have a lifetime sub). These days both games have either lifetimers or free to pay players (not seen many pay monthly subs still active). But we digress......

Subscriptions still sell. Many now are worried about the lifespan of the game, so are reluctant to go for the lifetime option, but still want to have freeform to experience one of the best features the game has to offer. Heh, but we are digressing, I suppose.

When did just playing the game become not enough? Go ahead and play the market and come back here when you get sick of it.
