Hello everyone, I'm some random nobody that you all have never heard of.
Great now that I got your attention, I'm KC. I'd like to go over a few things really quick hoping for the freakin life of me that someone who is important will get some small wiff of this and glance over out of their busy schedule to read one word from this topic.
It's no secret the game's character creation is very... VERY sub par with what was advertised, and what the game is capable of.
"What do you mean, KC? I created my character and had all these fun sliders to mess with!"
Did you not notice how almost nothing changed when you moved those sliders? The initial character creation is a big disappointment, and I expect to see something done at launch to fix it, or at least sometime soon after launch. Take a look at the initial character creation, and then take a look at Foundry's character creation. What differences do you see? Well lemme' give you a few right here:
- Foundry doesn't mute the color palette to a few select 'natural colors'. In the actual character creation every color is grey, brown, or green for most races. And why even have race-based color palettes? What sense does that make?
- Foundry allows for a more noticeable change in the character's body shape and size. You're not restricted to the 'natural' boundaries of the initial character creator.
"KC why are you demanding all this? You sound like a total jerk-wad and you should just leave if all you're gonna' do is trashtalk the game."
Okay lemme' get this straight to begin with: I do like this game a lot. But my hopes were set higher, and I feel like I'd like it a LOOOOOOOOOOOT more if I could make MY character the way I want to make him. For a roleplay-based MMO, they're not doing much to allow me to create my dream roleplay character. And as for the 'demand' of these things, they have actually gone out and stated, and I quote,

(For some reason my initial post cut off, sorry for the double post)
If you’ve created a character in Champions Online or Star Trek Online, Cryptic Studios’ currently-live titles, you’ll have a sense of how many options you’ll have in Neverwinter. Make your character unique with tattoos, plenty of hairstyles, complexions and more – and that’s just in current test builds. When Neverwinter launches, your adventurer’s appearance can be as unique as her adventures.
"When Neverwinter launches". I had hoped for a preview at what this 'amazing customization at the scale of CO and STO would look like during this beta session, and maybe (HOPEFULLY) foundry is what the character creator WILL look like, but for now I'm seeing no hopes for that. I've played CO, and the customization is a LOT better in CO than it is in NWO currently. It's on a whole different level than NWO's customization.
And for those of you who believe that these 'natural colors and sizes are good and should not change', because I know some of you exist, here's what I have to say:
1) This is a fantasy game. Anything goes.
2) Why should we be restricted by customization limits in a game made for us? Do you think NWO was released purely for the devs' enjoyment? No. They created it for us, the players, and they shouldn't limit the players on what they can and can't do when it comes to customization.
AS FOR MY HOPES FOR THE GAME:
I really hope to see a lot of new additions to foundry at/shortly after launch. There's so much potential, and I can tell there's a lot planned considering if you look at the picture on this page, you can read that there's a tab for NPC "weapons", signifying that there's a plan to allow us to give our NPCs their own weapons for fighting (and hopefully that will determind the fighting style as well). I'd also love to see behavior for NPC's that makes them fight alongside (or against) players, instead of needing to: create a Guard encounter, move all the guys except for the one you want to the side/in a room outside of time and space, and change all the details for one guy out of an entire group of up to 5(Or is it more?). Another thing I'd like to see at launch is maybe even give the ability to create different endings for a story instead of the same linear path with dead-end dialogues. Another nice thing would be the addition of some more objects to be able to place. Despite the collection of placeable items being amazing so far, it could be improved.
Anyway sorry for my long rant. Thanks for reading and not just instantly leaving this topic. Before you reply I'd recommend reading this FULL thing so you don't have the potential of making a fool of yourself. No one wants that. Anyway I apologize if I don't reply because I will sadly be out of town tomorrow and unable to access any sort of wi-fi until Friday night so sadly I'll be missing out on NWO's official launch, but I wish them the best. Once again, thanks. Really just needed to get this out there considering all my attempts to get information from the NWO facebook page have been ignored (I've been asking about the possibility of customization updates at launch, and I've never gotten a reply on it).

Op i agree with u on this issue, but what i was disapointed in more than anything was the lack of class race options for a d&d game. The biggest reason i like d&d is the huge variety of customisation options and ability to really play out a fantasy story in your own image. I feel this game really lacks in those areas, but im hopeful at some point ill be able to play a battlemage or the Eladrin warlock i play in my table top d&d group. Im really expecting hoping a warlocl paragon path will be available for my control wizard at or shortly after launch.

If they decided to overhaul the character creation system and add more goodies for us players, I hope our current character scales and such won't be affected (as in messed up) by it.
Else I'll be sad. Then I'll have to fork out plastic surgery token. ( ;__; )

Indeed, i was sad when i could barely change my characters facial features, it's beta alright, but the official launch is in less than 12 hours! anyhow I hope to see some other changes...like the ranger class (=/ ) and some bits and scraps, like the drows finally.... they paid 200 DOLLAR for something they can't even access fo sho' . anyhow I hope this will be looked at, as you made some prety good points.

No, I noticed there were subtle differences, limited by two extremes, allowing for creativity that didn't wander too much from established norms for the races.
There were, though, many issues with the head clipping through the hair, depending on hair style, head choice, and body size choices. It would be nice if that was fixed.

I imagine that is to give some artistic license for adventure creation.

KC, More sliders would be nice. I certainly hope we get some more at some point.
I never played the other cryptic games so when I saw the character creation I didn't notice anything really missing. I thought it was actually pretty good...until I saw STO's Character creation...and then I thought, "wow...that is much better!"
Character customization visuals, especially tattoos, need a bit more customization. I hate face tattoos, period. That's my personal real life ideaology so none of my character have or will ever have face tattoo's. Some additional scars would be nice but with the scars I would also love to have the STO movement on scars.
But what I really want are some arm tattoos and the ability to have sleeveless armor and such!

The Drow has always been stated, since the initial change, to be available "At least sixty days after the game launches."
Oh so I guess I'll wait a little bit more , no biggie .

That's actually not true, they will release the Drow race for everyone in the game to use, but they promised that those who paid 200 bucks on their game to be able to for them self day 1
I expect new hair models. LOTS of new hair models. **** theres a **** witch walking in PE with a **** **** long hair! Not the 'long' hair that reaches the shoulders, but one that goes til the waist! And i WANT that **** long hair sooooo bad!
Also, piercings. Like the ones that that the Nasher NPC has in the very first dungeon we go after to bring back the Neverwinter crown... U know >.>

Why isn't what ambisinister said true? I read that 60 day thing somewhere. That drow race is different than what founders get. You sure your correct benialaha?

I think you misread what I said and why I said it.
Vanilla drow will be available for everybody to use at least 60 days after launch.
The only reason I mentioned it was because ganjaman and a few others have, at some point, thought it would be available at launch which has never been said by any official source.

Thanks guys for your constructive responses! I was actually expecting a lot of flame replies, telling me to get lost or something. Anyway well NWO is here and still no customization updates... Here's hoping they'll add it later, like how you guys are saying they will with Drow. Plus I thought the new class was suppose to be released at launch. Personally I feel like they should have just done an overhaul of bug fixes and additions to the game for launch, because launch feels little-to-no different than beta.
Also, Ambisinisterr, I was very surprised to see a community moderator take part in this conversation. Thank you!
