Why do people spam guild invites to total strangers?

I'm not referring to the advertising in /zone, but to random strangers sending direct invites via the UI.

Why, if I wanted to join a guild, I'd look for one, so why do people think "Oh no guild, they'll join me!"

Thoughts anyone?

    While I feel it i in poor form to do so, this might be occurring due to the fact that you must be in a guild to participate in gauntlegrym.
