Can't believe folk still fall for this after all these years. It's been a problem in every online game i've played. They implement a sound AH to facilitate buying and selling securely between players, yet there are still people blinded by a good deal that fall victim to these rascals. Fool and his AD, as they say.
This is a weird thread. The EVE developers not only say this type of behavior is ok but it is encouraged as a "Meta game" within their game. If the EVE developers say this is ok then it must be ok in ALL games with trading. Really, do you expect Cryptic devs to go through lines and lines of chat code to see who screwed who when the easy thing to do is simply state to the community..."Be careful out there". Grin.
Its not normal, Rock Paper Shotgun made an article about EVE scammers, and having so many types of scams in a game makes people paranoid.
A second window to lock the items and make people read the items being traded is the safest and cheapest solution, it worked on runescape, once it got implemented the items swaps stopped, same with the old *free trimin*.
Also the forums could add a Trade Category eventually.
So they have yet to make it so that if one person cancels their end, the entire trade is cancelled?
*sings* "I like Gammera! He's so neat!!! He is full of turtle meat!!!"
"Hah! You are doomed! You're only armed with that pathetic excuse for a musical instrument!!!" *the Savage Beast moments before Lonnehart the Bard used music to soothe him... then beat him to death with his Fat Lute*

Almost sounds like you want easier ways to scam. Let's just put everything in a box to trade and have players just trust each other. That should work out.
I am seriously sick of people declining removing and accepting a trade and you losing out on your item and not getting the original item in the deal, Happened to me not only half an hour ago.
Coal ward for 2x Jeweled Idol. Sounds legit? I put my item in he put his in, he accepted and as i clicked it he must of declined (luck of the draw?) then accepted and i lost the freaking ward.
Now after a quick zone message, he has ripped loads of people off this last week. When are we going to be able to get some action on this.
anyone else had this happen and had it resolved?
Cheers
There is nothing wrong with this action. It was programmed for a reason. UNtil its changed there is nothing you can say or do. Its all your fault not the OP.
You seem to be accusing Cryptic of deliberately setting up this system so that people who paid REAL MONEY for items could be ripped off.
That is a very serious (indeed potentially criminal allegation) allegation so I hope you have proof......
This is F2P your saying that cryptic has lied to us then. Not one person HAS to spend a dime i thought. So your saying they lied to everyone and have commited false advertising.
All i said was the truth they did program it exactly the way it is. And until they change it there is nothing wrong with the way they programmed the game.

I see you are desperately trying to weasel out of it.
But since Cryptic sell items and ZEN so people have spent real money and lost items they paid for. So prove your allegation or just keeping digging yourself into a worse and worse hole...

I dont need any proof. Its a truth statment . They programmed the game the way it is. I Didnt say some gremlin programmed this game. Or someone from another planet programmed the game.

Dont weasel out of your statment saying people are loosing money either. This is a F2P game nobody needs to loose any money. Or are you saying its not a f2P game. YOu fanboys are so funny thinking your smarts are "me no eat no whole box fish chips!"
The fact that people are using "it was programmed this way so its not a bug" to justify the current state of abused game mechanics used to grief fellow players speaks volumes to where the real issues are.

When I briefly look at zone chat each time I play (before turning it off) all I see is a sea of scammers. People generally offering deals that are much, much worse than the AH and/or look to be too good to be true.
I feel for the people that may want to sell their item for gold which I find is silly that there isn't also a gold market available.
Not sure how sorry I can feel for people utilizing the MMO grey market. My guess would be is that it is set up the way it is to discourage avoiding the AH. I trade with friends all the time with no issues, that is what trade is there for. It's obvious the trade option isn't meant to subvert the AH.

So youre saying that because people dont NEED to spend that if they do, their expendatures shouldnt be protected from theft? The more these types of issues happen, the less people will want to spend in game. Why do people want to buy anything if RL money if its just going to get stolen by a scammer or hacker anyhow?
Its in the company's vested interest to keep an environment that doesnt allow scamming this easily. How hard is it to make the entire trade window disappear if one party removes anything from their window? Some other MMOs also use a lock in system that prevents trade window scamming.

Why are you calling this theft? Cryptic doesnt call it theft. They wont refund your lost trade item. Why dont you people take some of the responsibliity for your own actions. Your the ones excepting the trade with no other trade item in the trade. Why are you saying its cryptics fault?

Hilarious. So you are justifying someone having high reflexes and using sleight of hand to put something into the trade window, remove it and click accept again within a minor fraction of a second not theft, simply because in that fraction of a second, the other person involved in the trade also did not have millitary android like reflexes needed to put a stop to the scam.
Its as I stated before, this speaks volumes to where the real issues are.
Please also quote where I stated its cryptics fault. Cant? Yeap thats what I thought. What I did say is it is in cryptics VESTED INTEREST to make a trade window that either uses a lock in system, or drops the window entirely if anyone removes their item. Not too hard to do, as I scripted a lock in system trade window for the original NWN persistent world I ran, and it worked without a hitch.
Cryptic showing interest in protecting community members from theft and scams means more members of the same community will feel more comfortable spending money on their game. Vested interest, good business decision, swimming pools, movie stars.

Yes and all i said origionally is they programmed it this way for a reason. I dont know what that reason is but they must of had a reason to program it that way. And yes you should have catlike reflex to do a trade. So why dont you people ask cryptic why they programmed it that way? And why they wont refund your trades. Drops the mic on the floor :P
So...we've established that they set it up the way they did on purpose (it's not a bug.)
And we've established that it would be easy to setup a trade system where stealing couldn't happen.

There is a minor gold market. Mainly profession and mount. (which are expensive)

They programmed it that way because they didnt know their community would be inundated wth scammers exploiters and hackers. Now that they know better, they really dont lose anything by making it a lock in system or making the entire window drop if someone removes anything from the trade window. Its a win win situation businesswise, and no one else in the community loses out if they do so, save for the scammers.

This is a video game. You really think they didnt expect exploiters and hackers, are you serious. Then these would have to be the most inept developers on the market right now.... LOL The real question you all should be asking is WHY they programmed the trade to work as it does. They would of KNOWN this was a problem in testing phase. The real question is WHY they dont think its a problem.

That's the problem: the trade can be changed right before someone clicks accept and bam, they've been scammed.

Until they reprogram this so it doesnt happen. Its all up to the user to use caution.
