Plague Fire Enchantment Nerf (Upcoming patch)

Have been testing a bunch of stuff on the Neverwinter preview servers and noticed that the Plague Fire Enchantments are getting a real bad nerf. On the live server these enchantments are extremely overpowered, with the greater enchantment giving you a 45% damage increase!

The new enchantments will actually reduce your target's defense instead of adding straight to your damage resistance.

Lesser - 3 stacks of 1%
Normal - 3 stacks of 2%
Greater 3 stacks of 3%
Perfect - 3 stacks of 4% (unknown since I don't own one)

The following graph depicts how much of a nerf these enchantments will receive. This graphs shows you how much % damage increase you will have against an opponent with X amount of defense.

Defense data used to create this graph was obtained from the formulas in this thread.

I dont think this is a bad thing imo... Itll make vorpal stronger, GPF still allows for tene procs and STILL reduces defense by almost half. So it WILL be a big nerf to damage, but maybe this is what is needed? I am starting to think about vorpal...

So you are saying there is only a very small advantage (1%) in having a greater plague now? I dont see how thats possible since your cutting the armor in half of the opposing player...

The numbers are wrong here. The 15% defense reduction is not intended to stack (just as it does not stack on live with mitigation).

Additionally, although the patch note says they're making it reduce defense by 15%, the actual patch that went along with those notes simply reduced the current version of the enchant to 3% mitigation reduction.

EDIT: Also, there is no perfect GPF, as it comes from lockboxes. Only shard enchants can be perfect.

    Numbers should be correct...

If you have a GPF enchant and hit someone with 3000 defense (32.3% DR) and stack it up 3 times, they will get -9% defense. The target will now have 2730 defense (31.2% DR). The difference the 3 stacks would have made, which is on my graph, is 1.09% increase in damage.

The fact that plague fire enchantments lower your targets defense directly is the most significant part of the nerf.

Not too sure if it's going to be 3% stacks or 15% stacks... will have to wait until release to find out. Right now in the preview server the enchantments give the percents I specified.

So how badly did GPF enchantment get nerfed? I still read that it reduces 15% defense and stacks up to 3 times, is it still viable or is the damage increase from debuff light years behind say the damage you would see from greater vorpal?

so when the defenses get reduced that only means that armor pen is more valuable then

So 45% towards your armor penetration %? Say 10% damage resistance ignore from armor pen + 45% from GPF = 14.5%?

If that's the case then dayum.. greater vorpol is way better.

No reduction, it's still the same thing. I believe this is completely a rumor. I've heard about it for months now, but nothing has ever happened.

Functions as gunba has noted. Though no longer stacks if multiple party members use it also.

Very weird the descrip still wasn't updated.

Still a very powerful enchant. Best in the game for at least one of your 5 party members.

Very easy test too - hit a training dummy. They have zero defense. You'll see bracketed figures right away on the very first swing (the debuff applies before your first hit damage even).
