I believe the only difference is the Zen one is blue and the other is a green "companion", obviously the zen one is better, but I think you get the idea.
I know that it sucks to no longer get gear to sell from the Dungeon Delve chest but it was truly overpowered.

There is very little difference between Ioun Stone and the cat, tbh.
It's mostly belt slot (cat) vs Cleric Icon slot (stone), and which item bearing useful stats is easier to find.
Since items equipped on your companion don't affect your gearscore directly, you can go for the blue belt with Offense slot (versus the usual defense slot epic belts) and come out on top with slightly more Power/ARP/Crit.
That said, not a single "active" companion in this game is worth it - clerics attract aggro and die too fast, striker-types like Phoera deal negligible damage, etc. So it's either a cat or a stone.
Cat is good too, but is it like other companions that it must follow you and can be killed? I don't know the cat that well to answer. I know the Ioun Stone is always there. Meaning its a booster that you don't have to worry about an AI that gets stupid a lot LOL. Besides it looks cooler to have something orbiting you... but it is really six is one-half, half dozen the other.

Cat (or any other augment-type companion, for that matter) cannot be killed - it cannot be targeted at all.
Beside the available slots, the only difference between cats and stones is that the former go "meow" from time to time and the latter silently circle around your head all day long.
I noticed that the "active" companions are pretty much useless, even if for leveling the cleric was actually handy. However, in epic dungeons they are just..meh. I was leaning already towards with the blue Ioun stone and I guess I'll stick with that idea. Thank you very much for the answers.
It depends on what you want with it. Stones and Cats to buff your stats, all the others are mob-distractors with gimmicks. Some compete for threat with tanks and this could make managing the mobs more troublesome.
I'm leveling up a Galeb Duhr with my CW. Wasn't too impressed at first, but it's actually a decent little tank even without runes, and it usually only dies halfway a bossfight.
And I'd like to see how a Phoera would benefit a GF at higher levels.

The problem with active (i.e. "hittable") companions lies with godawful dungeon design by Cryptic.
At level 60, your typical dungeon boss fight requires you to deal with literally hordes of adds (counting towards the hundreds) and tons of AoE, which ensures your companion will die extremely fast.
They may be fine during the leveling process, but once you hit 60 and start epic dungeons, it's augment-type companions only.
i personally like the stone: mine gives me - 1124 arpen, 476 crit, 154 lifesteal, 597 power and 326 recov
3x rank 7 eldritch runestones, ancient berserker's ring of cleaving (i might switch this out and pryotech in (got pyrotech on my char and they are indeed better i think - ancient: 154 pwr, 154 arpen, 154 lifesteal + off vs pyrotech: 129 pwr, 129 arpen, 175 crit + off)), grand excorist necklace and icon of the miracle healer. (all 3 items slotted with rank 6 dark enchantments)
but cat (with blue belt on it for offslot (cause epic belts only got defslots and you don't want a def enchantment in one of our pet items...) is fine too.
edit: with pyrotech ring i got: 1095 arpen, 651 crit, 568 power and 326 recov (and don't forget that the bonus that the eldritch runestone in the defensive slot gives me is 8.5% of these stats listed above -> it's NOT included yet!)
