In-game Mail Issue

A friend of mine sent me some items in the mail. I logged in to check it, and there was nothing there. About 15 minutes later, I got an actual "you have new mail" notification. Ok, cool. I went to the Postal Courier to pick up the mail, that the system says I received, and there's nothing there to pick up. I open the mail window, and I have no new mail, despite the fact that the system says I do, and I know for a fact that the mail was sent. What's wrong here? Do I need to be a certain level to receive mail, or is the mail system just plain broken?

To answer the obvious questions. Yes, we are on the same shard, I know cross-shard mail is not possible. I spoke to my friend directly and he verified that the mail was sent successfully. I also verified that he sent it to the correct name and handle. I do have another character on another shard, and I checked his mail just to make sure. I do not have an active account for any other PW game.

Any ideas? Why am I getting told I have mail, and I know I do, but the mail isn't there when I check for it? The character in question is only level 7. Is that the problem? Does he need to be higher level to receive mail from other characters? Does it just take a while to show up? If so, how long? An hour, 3 hours, 5 hours, a day, a week, how long? I'm getting a little frustrated by this. My friend went to a lot of trouble to send me stuff, I don't want to waste his time and lose the gear because the mail system bugged out.

Same thing happened to me. One of my auctions sold, got notification of it in my mail saying "go to postal courier to get your AD". I go to the courier and the message is there but nothing actually in the message. First time it's happened to me.

Mail is all messed up - seeing all sorts of anomalies. Lost plenty of stuff because i thought it was delayed.... imagine spending real money to have it lost - great game.
