1.5 GB patch causing driver conflicts in Nvidia 8800 GTX

As we all know, early this morning the infamous 1.5 GB patch was downloaded and installed. Wife and I went to bed when the installing began, and this morning I returned to our PCs to check on progress and put them to rest for a while.
My PC was fine, it has an ATI Radeon 4870. But wife's PC runs on a Nvidia 8800 GTX and the GPU was disabled. It shows that hated error 43 message in the Device Manager and I'm going crazy looking for a way to solve it. As far as I know, this is a software conflict, because the GPU still is connected to the monitor and it is giving display, althoug resolution is maxed at 1280 x 1024. On top of it, there is a pop-up in the Task Bar of a certain Tages driver being blocked. Isn't that Tages a DRM?
I tried restoring the system to this morning at 3am. No good. May 27th: no good.
What has this patch done to my wife's PC?
