From a GF: Mob Knockbacks are Silly

kelestrakelestra Member, Moonstars, Neverwinter Beta Users, Neverwinter Hero Users Posts: 82
Jumped into some dungeons tonight with guildmates on the Preview Server... and threat was excellent. I was able to hold mobs fairly well and our Cleric didn't have to kite around like an idiot the whole night and could do more than just dodge and cast... however!

Now that I've got threat quite often... I'm knocking combo-knocked/kicked around like a fool; even juggled super easily.

It seems that a lot of mobs have a "At-Will" knockback (small) that easily can stop/interrupt my 'Taunts' and 'Skills' as a GF. When I've got roughly 8+ mobs all on me at once, each doing their little kick/knock back... I find myself just taking my hand off the keyboard while I'm getting juggled, in frustration.

I'm personally a little annoyed by the amount of "Knocking Back" games are allowing to be done to players. I understand the DPS perhaps... but your Main Tank? Come on now... it's their job to get hit and when they're constantly getting juggled and knocked around they can't cast/hit anything to try and keep threat.

I don't mind it a little here and there; and if I screw up block and miss it... but with the amount of adds you guys love to throw at us in this game... let's get serious; it's a little much.

Can the GF's get a little more natural knock-back resistance please... we're in Heavy Armor for crying out loud. It's pretty stupid when little minions are knocking me around like wet noodle.

Thanks!

Did you try the boss in Frozen with all the Golems?

In addition can you please provide us with your race and main tree (i.e. conq, prot, tact)

You do of course realize we have a daily that makes us nearly immune to knockdowns/knockbacks and such right? It also provides a hefty damage boost and here's the kicker.. an unlimited target AoE.

    Use Villain's Menace.

I second this! Combine with Into the Fray and feat for more AP on block and you got yourself a winner.

If you can keep 100% uptime on that daily then ok, but once you start poppin' like popcorn it's pretty much game over (cleric here) :p

On the live server you can already keep up 100% uptime and sometime with lot of mobs, you even twist in a fighter recovery or terrifying impact or your other favorite daily. I don't know if it's mandatory but it is easy to do with into the fray buff to yourself and even easier if you have a wizard willing to use arcane singularity so you can cleave like crazy, when you use trample of the fallen, you have a massive AoE tanking threat without needing actually any other threat bonus, i can tank 20+ mobs and be immune to CC with no downtime.

Since villain menace no longer overwrite into the fray buff for you. those 2 abilities are probably a clear winner for next patch. Mobility/damage/threat/almost infinite AP.

It's not the solution. Using a Daily to counter CC/knockback doesnt help. The class should have a Encounter to do this. TRs have it, but the tank doesnt.

I have found myself raging once in a while at getting perma CCed by knockbacks in PvE on Live and was just talking to guild mates about how much worse it will be once I have much more threat. The buffed threat wont matter if we are permanently interrupted and cant attack at all..

Villain's Menace doesn't always prevent our main tank from being thrown around, GF Dwarf throwing is pretty annoying for the entire party, not only the tank.
Cryptic really needs to sort that out, since it is rather stupid game design than anything that requires skill.

If you use (In To The Fray) -> (Knight's Valor) -> (Enforced Threat) that alone will fill your Action meter -> (Villain's Menace). Repeat. This will cement 5 mobs to you and put a great deal of aggro on the rest, even if this is all you can do while kiting the rest of the time. If this is not enough for you, maybe talk to your DC about not spamming their worst aggro generators all the time. Funny thing, in the process you do decent AOE damage, buff your party, and eat half the dmg they do take.

Your not getting to cleave stuff all the time anymore and you kinda feel like maybe you might need some more defense? Rough stuff. Maybe stop and look at the +5% dmg buff in the Tactician tree and the +10% crit severitybonus/defense on that T2 set you never bothered to get. I bet those might help your parties DPS while you kite...

Here is a question for you; whats better (30% more dps for you) or (8% dps for everyone in your party [so thats 8 * 5 = 40%...] ) ?

Oh yeah, in case you missed it, tene's proc from deflect and that tiny 2% from briar starts to add up by itself if you get hit 20 times a second (you know, like when your party decides that the archers don't need to die.... lol)

My only question atm is on a kiting/buff/aoe build is there a place for lifesteal? Anyone tested it in the "new world"?
