Daunting Light targeting mobs instead of area

The cleric encounter power Daunting Light states that it affects "the targeted area". But the game is not finding the ground under the reticule correctly.

If the mob is close then the power just targets me. If I raise the reticule it fires the power at a distant target or some very distant (max range?) unoccupied space.

It behaves like an auto-targeting problem where the target is based on a mob or person (including me) rather than an area as stated in the description of the power.

When using the power, even at range, if I happen to target my pet, the power then defaults to me and wastes the attack.

If the power does require a targeted mob then it should not fire unless an appropriate mob is targeted. If it is supposed to affect a ground area then it should not respond to the presence of mobs.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps there is a problem but you are not describing it clearly enough.

Daunting Light is a targeted aoe with a circlular free targeting cursor. If an enemy is standing in the circle at the time the spell animation completes, they take damage. If there is no enemy, e.g. they have moved, they take no damage.

Your Companion and yourself never take damage no matter where you put the cursor.

The targeting cursor never locks onto any unit, enemy or otherwise.

So, in the simplest possible terms or with the smallest possible example, what exactly is the problem?
