It is, but you'll need to create a second account (and level a character through the tutorial area). I call this my mule character.
Once you are out of the tutorial area, go to Blacklake or somewhere less populated (don't do this in Protector's Enclave!). Take note of the number of the instance you are in.
Minimize your game and launch a second copy of the game, then login to your main account. Transfer your main character to the instance where your mule is waiting, then just trade with yourself (by switching between the two games to accept and so on).
Your mule should now be holding all the items you want to transfer to your other character, so just logout with your main and load up the character you want to give the items to and repeat the trade process with your mule.
Well, you can also just post stuff to yourself, though this doesn't (as far as I can see) work with money. For that, you could simply farm some high-level but rubbish greens and post them to your lower level toons to sell.
I don't trust the mail system (I've heard reports of things just disappearing in transit) and as you say, you can't send gold. The two accounts thing is a bit convoluted, but it works *touchwood*.
I think the easiest thing would be to have a 'shared' bank tab. Aion did this and it was brilliant! You had your normal bank space and then a smaller separate space that was shared between all characters on your account. This made transferring stuff between characters super easy.

Hope this helps. Good luck
