Completely new to MMORPG's but I used to be a serious MUD addict back in the day. I know cleric is probably the most "in demand" class for group play, however, I am not a big fan of the style of play of a cleric. On the other hand, I just got my Trickster Rogue to level 30 and haven't had much success whatsoever when looking for group play.
I guess I would appreciate any insight as to raw statistics of numbers of each class and also maybe a well informed list by order of which classes are the most "group friendly". I fully expect DC to be at the top but maybe I can play a class that is more popular than the TR but more my style of play than the DC. Thanks for any and all of your input!

That highly depends on whether you want something for the endgame or sooner.
At the lower levels it's easy to get a group through the groupfinder with a Guardian, but at the current endgame Guardians and GWFs are unwanted.
For endgame I think the second most in demand atm is a Control Wizard, for their damage and ability to CC enemies.

All classes are technically viable, although the current end game players prefer groups comprised only of Rogues, Wizards and Clerics. Specifically 1 Rogue to tank bosses and do DPS, 2 Wizards to CC and throw mobs off ledges (something that should be addressed and is most of the reason why the fighters aren't wanted) and 2 Clerics to stack Astral Shield (the other half of the problem, in that Guardian Fighters cannot hold aggro off Clerics and due to diminished heals on yourself, you are better off taking a second healer and the two healers end up tanking everything due to heal aggro).
So yes, anything other than the fighters at the moment. Once they fix the cheap throwing mobs off ledges and aggro issues with clerics, there may be a role for the fighters in end-game PvE again.
Well, I guess I will just keep at it with my Trickster Rogue. I do enjoy its style of play. Once I get her to level 60 then I will take a look at Control Wizards. Sure do hope they get some new classes soon, though.

From what I gather every 2 months they will be adding 1 new race and 1 new class. That gives us just long to have everything in 4th edition with the typical ~3 year mmo product support lifecycle.
Hi, I found my GF extremely helpfull in groups ( as DPS not Tank! ), high DPS, high survivability, fun to play!
Yes they can do good AE damage, unfortunately they don't bring much else to the table, unlike CWs who can group mobs up with Arcane Singularity for easy AE burns.

Well...guess I have wasted my time and effort for the month or so on my GWF now that I approach level 60. Listening to all this sounds like I will not be able to get any of the awesome endgame gear due to no groups willing to take me. I find that kinda sad.
clerics are no1 and no2. currently in this game, clerics are both the tank and a healer. which are both the most wanted roles. the second would be a good control wizard. and i dont mean PEW PEW wizard, wizards who chain control monsters during boss fights.
I wouldnt worry too much about desirable class in terms of dungeons and such, because the system is rather broken. guardians cannot hold agro of more than 5 monsters (bosses usually include atleast 10). Cleric's healing draws more agro than anything else, so they end up tanking.
Trickster rogues however are needed, for damage reasons. however usually only 1 is needed per group (The Cookie cutter group is 2x Cleric, 2x Wizard, 1x rogue.)
hopefully this will all change as we progress through beta.

It's not quite as bad as that. My main (Tiefling GWF) still gets picked up for dungeons. Plus, the balance patch they will be adding soon will improve the class.
I've actually got another two GWFs leveling up based on my experience with my main. I'm just choosing different feats and powers for each to see what plays differently.

CW is awesome but there are a lot along wit rogues.

GWF's have an aoe pull as well.

Easy answer is cleric.
CW then Rogue. But just avoid GWF and you're fine.
