Companion max lev

Hi all. I'm not to sure if I've hit a glitch here or if there is a max lev for a persons companion. I'm on lev 35 atm and my companion seems to be stuck on 15. The little purple bar doesn't go up but when I open the companion box the xp is climbing. I've got a cleric. Is there a max lev or does this look like a problem? Thanks all.

The level is locked by quality. The standard companions can only go to level 15. Blue companions can go to 25. And purple can go to 30.

Currently there is no way to improve a companions quality.

Ouch... Thanks sockmunkey. Do you have to buy blue or purple companions?

Yes. One way or another: zen, AD, opening nightmare lock boxes, founder's packs...

There are upgrade tombs coming soon to allow you to upgrade your companions in level/quality much like how you can do so for mounts.

Yea, the only way to get the blue or purple pets are via the zen store, wondrous bazaar, tourmaline bar vendor, or the AH.

There are plans to add training manuals that will allow you to upgrade your companions to the next highest quality. But they are not in place yet. And even when they do get added expect the costs to be significant. Similar to what the upgrade manuals for mounts are, id expect.

A comapnion rank equals two levels, so rank 15 is like level 30.

I used the white cleric companion all the way to 60. She croaked a lot, but her heals are percentage-based, so she remained useful.

Note that it appears the level restrictions on items DO NOT seem to apply to companions. Or at any rate my level 15 Wiz companion is able to equip a level 58 talisman despite my character only being level 56.

This is partly true. I reported this issue a while ago but it seems like it's actually probably a feature. Whilst the level restriction on items seem to be unlocked (A level 15 companion/level 15 player for example can equip level 60 items to the companion) those stats don't activate/the items are locked until you actually reach the specific level of the item so it potentially means the slot is wasted anyway.

Even better, the item doesn't get bound if they use it - so you can pass it on to an alt or sell it later. :D
