So I just tried to figure out how exactly damage works in Neverwinter, particularly the Power stat. You can get up to 5k power as a TR, but what does it actually do? After some testing I got the basic formula for damage. Bet its already figured out but i'll post it anyway for those who didn't.
The first thing you have to realise is that power doesn't affect your damage output directly. Power is first converted into useful damage, which is THEN added to your base damage. The ratio at which Power is converted into useful damage is 1/25(total power). So if you have 5k power, you now get 200 useful damage. This useful damage is then added to your weapon base damage, the first start where it shows something like 436-497 damage. As a TR, you get 2 daggers, so with 2 daggers, you have a total base damage(without power) of 994. Then the power gets added in so now your sum base damage is 1194. Now, comes the damage calculation. The reason why you dont do 1k damage with your abilities is because your powers have a damage multiplier. for example, Sly Flourish for TR has a 1:1 ratio with base damage, and their lashing blade has a 4.5 damage multiplier, with shocking execution doing 17x your base damage. and again, to recap, base damage is equal to [Weapon damage+(Total Power)/25]
Lifesteal has a 0.08 scaling, so 1k lifesteal is equal to .8% actual lifesteal.
In other words, stacking power is pretty pointless, since all it does at the end of the day is give you 200 bonus base damage, although it helps make your encounters do more damage, especially something that has a huge multiplier like Shocking Execution.
And one last thing. Its more of a question. If I have 22% armor pen(which means i ignore 22% of targets armor) does that mean that against someone with 2k armor(which gives them maybe 20% damage resistance) i actually ignore 400 armor?(20% of 2000 is 400, which roughly is equal to 3-4% damage reduction) so does that mean that armor pen is useless? making the only stats viable atm crit and lifesteal? thoughts plz
From what I remember from tricks guide you linked, Arpen scales massively better than power as a stat. whether or not this is true for all classes or not I'm not sure, but for damage and GWF Arpen is better anyways. And I'm pretty sure he states it's somewhat abusable with a rogue in some ways and claims he may have found a very flawed design aspect with arpen and rogue.
