Note, this is just to help some people avoid chatbans (and to avoid the omg I got chatbanned posts here)
Feel free to add more things that are a common reason for your or your friends to chatban someone.

Reasons why people probably chatban you :

1) 29GS TR LFG EXP FAST CP RUN
People seem to dislike many acronyms in one sentence.
2) WTS Lockboxes
Like the annoying system message "HAMSTER has won a pony " is not enough. Most people just trash lockboxes anyway.
3) WTS "Insert 6 purple items here"
People just see a wall of purple in chat which is hard to read.
4) Spamming the same message over and over
Chat is already hard to read without you spamming..
5) They just want to grief.
It happens, nothing to be done here.
5) Messages in cap.
6) Scam messages which are so obvious even a 2 year old wouldnt fall for it.
7) Youre a bot.
No explanation necessary for the last 3.

None of this changes the fact that a zone chatban results in your character being completely muted for a full day, regardless if the person was guilty or not, and the fact that said person can't communicate with teammates also, regardless if the player is guilty or not.

You have to understand, most people are trying to bybass the AD gouging the auction hall does, and TRYING to get groups when the level system screws them out of a dungeon they need to complete for a daily.

The system is flawed. In a big way.

Some people prefer a clean zone chat.

And some people prefer to use zone to advertise deals that they feel the AH incapable of handling properly. What makes your preferences any more important than theirs?

I think i have half of my server's population ignored. Because 9 out of 10 people in this community have no manners, or even the slightest clue how to behave properly in public. If you confront them and/or try to tell them how it's done the right way,

Pray, tell us the "right way" that isn't just your preferences. Point us to some written rule that says "zone chat shalt not be used for advertisement of sales or trades".

See, I CAN point you to Cryptic developer posts that state the /report spam feature is meant to be used on REAL MONEY TRADERS ONLY, and any other reason to use it isn't proper use, but abuse. Cryptic runs three games under the same engine, remember.

Also, ignoring someone will have the same effect as the report spam function if enough people apply the ignore. This is wrong, and needs to be changed. And, being that this is the new shiny and is getting much press..it's the best chance to finally have this long standing issue of abuse of the system addressed.

Edit: For the record, I have zone chat off in all my channel tabs. I don't use it, don't care to see it, but I will defend to the death someone's right to play the way they want to, even if I disagree with it. (This most certainly does not apply to exploitation, however.)

Occam's Razor makes the cutting clean.

Here are some other known causes of chat bans to add to your list:

    8) refusing other players' unwanted sexual advances.

    9) running a community even with a contest where a disgruntled losing contestant has a lot of friends.

    10) engaging in role play via private chat messages in areas know to be frequented by roleplayers.

'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.

Hey guys, it's called zone chat. You can't discuss anything not relating directly to that zone.

The game is free to play , any kiddie with a modem can play . Just do not use [zone] chat for a month or so till they leave . STO had this problem when they first introduced this policy . It eventually worked it self out when the kiddies went on to the next great game .
